Pharmacy Technician

Responsibilities Assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy and perform other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with Company policies and procedures. Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. If PTCB or ExCPT certified, assist with and coach pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cashiers in the operation of the pharmacy cash registers. Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience. Operations Under supervision by the pharmacist, assist in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state, federal, and company policy. Review and comply with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct. Perform duties as assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist and Store Manager, including entering patient and drug information, ensuring accuracy, filling prescriptions, verifying medicine, checking for interactions, and assisting pharmacists with scheduling and workflow. Report prescription errors immediately and adhere to policies related to pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program. Adhere to the Walgreens policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing during all applicable prescription dispensing activities. Register sales on the assigned cash register, handle cash as required, and assist customers in locating products. Handle routine telephone calls and communications that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention. Process (correct and resubmit) manual claims for third-party prescription services in a timely manner and perform other clerical duties as assigned. Assist and support Pharmacy Department inventory management activities, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing shipments; maintain knowledge of asset protection techniques and file claims for discrepancies or damaged goods. Assist pharmacist in administering clinical services as required and coordinate with Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers. Assist Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in developing and maintaining relationships with the local medical community through outreach to health groups and facilities to support growth opportunities. Assist with exterior and interior maintenance by ensuring the Pharmacy Department is stocked, clean, and orderly. Comply with all company policies and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers. Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned. Training & Personal Development Earn and maintain PTCB or ExCPT certification through the designated training program and/or state required certification/registration. If not yet certified, certification may be a condition of promotion to senior technician. Attend training and complete continuing education credits; maintain knowledge and skills in healthcare and pharmacy, including latest developments. Basic Qualifications Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English. (Except in Puerto Rico) Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. Preferred Qualifications Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment. Prefer prior experience with Walgreens. Prefer good math skills for accurate prescription filling, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications. Prefer good computer skills and knowledge of store inventory control. Prefer PTCB or ExCPT certification. Salary Range: $19.50 - $23.00 per hour. The actual compensation offered will depend on geography, skills, education, experience, and other factors.
