Type of Position:

This position will begin as a 12-month contract, with strong potential for long-term employment. While the contract is initially set for 12 months, there is no fixed end date, and extensions beyond the initial term are possible. Conversion to a direct hire role may occur as early as 4 months, depending on individual performance and business needs. Although direct hire is not guaranteed, it is a common outcome for high-performing team members, and most contractors in this role do transition to permanent positions over time.

Compensation:

$35.00/hr to $40.00/hr (depending on experience) to start. Overtime is paid at 1.5x over 40 hours. There will be a $0.50/hr off shift premium when working off shift.

Benefits:

• Available (medical, dental, 401k, vision, etc) - benefit eligibility begins 1st of the month after 30 days of employment.
• You will have 5 days PTO per year (PTO accrues over time). There will be significantly more PTO in converting to direct hire. Additional PTO will be available at a lesser pay rate.

Job Description:

HRU Technical Resources has partnered with a major automotive manufacturer to hire a 2nd (afternoon) shift Warehouse Supervisor. In this role you will lead daily operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will also be responsible for driving safety, quality, productivity, employee engagement, and operational performance while overseeing hourly employees on the warehouse floor.

The ideal candidate is a strong people leader who thrives in a union manufacturing environment, coaches employees for success, holds teams accountable, and continuously looks for opportunities to improve processes through Lean manufacturing principles and structured problem solving. Success in this role requires balancing operational execution with employee development, safety leadership, and cross-functional collaboration.


Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Employee Development

• Lead, coach, and support hourly employees to achieve safety, quality, and production goals.
• Counsel employees regarding performance, attendance, workplace concerns, and career development.
• Reinforce positive performance while addressing performance issues through timely coaching and corrective action.
• Foster an engaged, accountable, and high-performing team culture.
• Support employee growth through the Individual Development Plan (IDP) process.
• Partner with fellow supervisors and leadership to optimize shift performance and staffing.

Daily Operations

• Plan daily workloads and staffing assignments to meet production requirements.
• Lead daily start-of-shift meetings to communicate business performance, priorities, safety topics, and operational goals while encouraging two-way communication.
• Monitor workflow throughout the shift and adjust resources as needed to meet business objectives.
• Maintain accurate daily payroll through the Timekeeping System (TKS).
• Ensure compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) by performing regular audit checks.
• Keep the General Supervisor and Shop Committee informed of department activities, issues, and operational updates.

Continuous Improvement

• Utilize the Quality Network problem-solving process to identify operational challenges and implement sustainable solutions.
• Lead structured problem-solving efforts using the A3 methodology and documentation standards.
• Drive Workplace Organization (WPO) initiatives to improve workplace layout, organization, efficiency, and material flow.
• Encourage employee involvement by soliciting ideas for process improvements and operational excellence.
• Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives across the operation.

Safety & Compliance

• Champion a culture of safety by leading by example and ensuring compliance with all company safety policies.
• Perform and document weekly departmental safety observation tours.
• Ensure employees follow established safety procedures and workplace standards.
• Enforce shop rules, company policies, and collective bargaining agreement requirements.
• Maintain compliance with both national and local contractual obligations.

Operational Performance

• Monitor key performance metrics including safety, quality, productivity, attendance, and delivery performance.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to resolve operational issues quickly and effectively.
• Support inventory accuracy, workflow efficiency, and continuous operational improvement.
• Identify opportunities to improve productivity while maintaining high quality standards.

Skills, Education, Experience Required:

• High school diploma OR GED is required (higher level education is also welcome).
• 1-2 years of technical or business school training, or equivalent technical education
• Skilled trades training or equivalent technical background
• 10+ years of manufacturing, warehouse, or production experience
• Previous experience leading hourly employees in a manufacturing or distribution environment
• Manufacturing and warehouse operations

• Experience conducting safety audits and leading daily production meetings

Work Environment / Other Info:

• This is a 2nd (afternoon) shift role. Standard hours are 3:00pm to 11:00pm. This role typically works Monday to Friday (a rare occasional Saturday is possible, but unlikely).
• This role may have occasional overtime, but it won't be extensive. Overtime is paid at 1.5x for all hours worked over 40 hours per week.
