Job Description

The Line Attendant supports machine operators on a cheese production line by loading cheese blocks onto conveyors, feeding them into shredding equipment, and packaging shredded cheese into labeled boxes ready for palletizing. This role involves consistent lifting, careful visual inspection of product quality, and adherence to food safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in a cool, clean production environment on the overnight shift.

Responsibilities

• Load cheese blocks onto conveyors and feed them into the cheese shredding machine in a steady and efficient manner.
• Perform thorough visual inspections of cheese blocks to ensure no plastic or foreign material remains before shredding.
• Use sharp tools safely to remove plastic from cheese blocks prior to processing.
• Scoop shredded cheese into film packaging and ensure portions are accurate and properly filled.
• Seal, bag, and package shredded cheese into correct portions according to production specifications.
• Attach labels to packaged products as required, ensuring accuracy and legibility.
• Fill boxes with packaged cheese and lift completed boxes onto pallets consistently throughout the shift.
• Handle repetitive lifting of up to 40 lbs throughout the day while maintaining safe work practices.
• Follow all GMP requirements, including wearing hair nets, beard nets, smocks, and steel-toe footwear.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with facility and food safety standards.
• Comply with all facility rules, including working in a smoke-free campus and following restrictions on jewelry and artificial nails or eyelashes.
• Work cooperatively with machine operators and team members to meet production targets and quality standards.
• Follow established procedures for shift schedules, overtime, and plant engagement activities as communicated by supervisors.

• Minimum of 1 year of consistent work history in packaging, production, or warehouse roles involving moving packages or loading and unloading boxes.
• Experience in general labor or general production work, including repetitive tasks and physically demanding duties.
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs consistently throughout the shift and perform repetitive motions safely.
• Comfort working in a labor-intensive environment that requires standing, lifting, and manual handling for extended periods.
• Basic understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and willingness to comply with GMP requirements, including appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Attention to detail to perform visual inspections of product and packaging for quality and safety.
• Ability to work reliably on a 3rd shift schedule and maintain strong attendance and punctuality.
• Capability to use sharp tools safely for cutting plastic from cheese blocks.
• General production skills including loading, packaging, and palletizing in a fast-paced environment.

• Prior experience working in a GMP-regulated environment is preferred.
• Background in food production, packaging, or similar manufacturing settings is beneficial.
• Demonstrated history of steady employment in labor-intensive roles with repetitive work.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and standard operating procedures.
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to maintaining consistent attendance.
• Willingness to work overtime on scheduled Friday nights when needed.
• Comfort working in a cool environment around 55 degrees with required PPE.
• Openness to working in a smoke-free facility with restrictions on jewelry and artificial cosmetic enhancements.

Work Environment

This role is based in a cheese production facility operating on a 3rd shift schedule, with typical hours from approximately 10:00 p.m. to 6:00–7:00 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning. Overtime is commonly scheduled on Friday nights, with about one week’s notice and usually occurring every other week. The facility is GMP-compliant and requires hair nets, beard nets, smocks, and steel-toe footwear; all personal protective equipment except steel-toe shoes is provided. The production area is maintained at around 55 degrees, offering a cool but not excessively cold environment. The campus is entirely smoke-free, and employees must follow strict rules that prohibit jewelry, fake or long nails, and fake eyelashes to maintain product safety. Work involves standing for long periods, repetitive lifting, loading, and packaging tasks around automated machinery in a structured, safety-conscious setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of South Milwaukee, WI.

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.
