Substance Abuse Counselor, Clinical (NS)

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. The Substance Abuse Counselor, Clinical will provide direct client care services to an outpatient opiate/opioid dependent population of men and women admitted to the Walter B Jones Centers Opioid Treatment Program, and consistent with standards of the Center and Joint Commission. This position focuses on screening individuals presenting for services, individual and group counseling, case management and psycho-education with an assigned group of outpatient clients. This position will be a "first responder" for 24-hour crisis response to enrolled individuals. The Substance Abuse Counselor, Clinical work primarily as part of a treatment triad to provide clinical services and a single counseling caseload can be up to 50 clients.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

• Knowledge of psycho-pharmaceutical therapies and drug interactions.
• Knowledge and practical application of advanced therapeutic approaches, group dynamics, crisis intervention, family and trauma-focused therapy.
• Knowledge of the substance abuse addiction process, including psychological and physical withdrawal.
• Skill in establishing rapport with clients and their families and in applying techniques of assessing psychosocial, behavioral, and psychological aspects of addiction.
• Skill in expressing ideas clearly and concisely and in working effectively with staff and clients.

This Position Is Designated As Mandatory And Must Report Or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events.

About the Facility:

The Walter B. Jones Center operates two adult inpatient treatment programs on site in Greenville, NC: (1) Woodside Treatment Center and (2) Lakeside Psychiatric Hospital. The primary purpose and mission of the Walter B. Jones Center is "To provide inpatient treatment, psychiatric stabilization and medical detoxification for individuals with mental health, substance use and other co-occurring psychiatric diagnoses for ongoing community based treatment and recovery". The Center is accredited by the Joint Commission and SAMHSA/CSAT. Two specialty programs are offered to all 100 NC Counties: (1) Inpatient Opioid Treatment for adults and (2) Inpatient Perinatal Services for women in their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trimesters with substance use disorders.

Licensed as a Clinical Addictions Specialist (LCAS) or as a Clinical Supervisor Intern (CSI) from a governing authority recognized by the NC Addictions Specialist Professional Practice Board to practice under the provisions of the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Act.
