Occupational Therapist

Occupational therapists treat injured, ill, or disabled patients through the therapeutic use of everyday activities. They help these patients develop, recover, and improve the skills needed for daily living, learning, and working.

Adhere to professional, ethical, and legal standards of practice and to the established regulations and laws governing Exceptional Children Programs.

Participate in activities that assist with professional development and use clinical research information to enhance occupational therapy services.

Screen and evaluate students with physical and/or psychosocial disabilities in the use of gross and fine motor functions, independent living skills, and sensory and perceptual-motor skills.

Implement direct and indirect services based on interventions determined by evaluation results.

Provide information and consultation services to administrators, school personnel, parents, and community agencies to develop and maintain support of students with physical and/or psychosocial disabilities in the educational environment and the objective of the occupational therapy service.

Promote effective verbal and written communication with administrators, school personnel, parents, and community agencies.

Establish the necessary schedules, procedures, resources, and records to manage the occupational therapy program and work cooperatively to accomplish the goals of Upshur County Schools. Follow all procedures related to Medicaid and maintain appropriate documentation. Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by the Director of Special Education or the Superintendent.

Valid certificate/licensing as an Occupational Therapist pursuant to WV Code 18A-3-2; National Board Certification in Occupational Therapy; Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code 18-5-15c and/or 18A-3-10, as appropriate; Meet the qualifications outlined in WV Code 18A-3-2a; Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-A) issued by the American Speech Language-Hearing Association.
