Scheduling Specialist

Job Details Location: Avera Cancer Institute – Yankton, South Dakota. Worker type: Regular. Shift: Day, Monday–Friday. Pay range: $18.50 – $24.25 per hour (actual pay depends on experience). Job Overview Performs diverse duties related to the department including completing prior and pre‑authorizations, working insurance appeals, verifying benefits, making referrals, scheduling pre‑operative physicals and reviewing surgery information with patients. Responsible for scheduling, maintaining, and disseminating an accurate surgery schedule and providing clerical services. Responsibilities Obtain information from physician offices to schedule tests, procedures, and admissions accurately and in a timely manner. Coordinate a plan of care for patients across hospital and clinic departments, including working with equipment vendors for surgical equipment. Coordinate care between facilities for telemedicine utilization when applicable. Communicate information to physicians, staff, families, etc., in a professional manner. Assist with collecting and maintaining records for performance improvement, Joint Commission accreditation, CARF certification, OSHA guidelines, and other legal requirements. Coordinate scheduling of specialized equipment based on procedures. Maintain physician calendar, procedure schedule and all coordinating orders for procedures. Essential Qualifications Must be able to work the specified hours. Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties. Preferred Qualifications High School diploma or GED. Associate’s degree in medical secretarial school. 1–3 years experience as a scheduler, biller, or in a medical office.
