Job Description – Cardiac Sonographer, West Campus, 10K Bonus (941482) Job Summary Works under moderate supervision to provide professional and technical skills involving use of ultrasound in medical diagnosis and evaluation of patients. Performs both clinical and/or research protocols. These programs should be accredited by either the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Canadian Medical Association (CMA). Experience Regional Center locations may have higher experience requirements based on clinic or standard of care. Licenses and Certifications (ARDMS) AMER REGIS DIAG MED SONO – new hires must pass the ARDMS credentialing exam within 1 year. (CCI) CREDENTIALNG CARDIOVASCLR INTL – new hires must pass the CCI credentialing exam within 1 year. (BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT – course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) required upon hire. Preferred 2 years of cardiovascular sonography experience Job Duties Facilitates patient throughput and enhances patient satisfaction with testing process. Checks computer for new orders, reviews physician's orders on patient's chart, identifies patients via two methods, explains procedure, protects privacy, and transports patients safely and timely. Reviews patient chart to include history and clinical diagnosis. Recognizes significant clinical information that may affect the echo study from patient interview and medical record. Positions patient to optimize quality of test results. Utilizes appropriate transducers/equipment during the procedure. Watches patient for signs or symptoms of complications and promptly notifies nurse/physician of changes in status. Records all measurements accurately; performs necessary mathematical calculations. Demonstrates the ability to accurately perform ultrasound procedures including Cardiac Doppler, Color Flow Doppler, Two‑Dimensional Echo, Transesophageal Echo, pharmacologic echo studies, and stress echo. Learns new modalities as they become available. Provides best image quality within resource limitations, delineates normal and abnormal anatomy, physiology, and hemodynamics, and recognizes findings that may require immediate clinical response. Archives and retrieves studies. Provides proper care and use of digital echo system, transducers, and probes following manufacturer suggestions. Checks bi‑weekly to ensure all studies are read and finalized, and notifies the reading cardiologist and the Medical Director of Non‑Invasive Cardiology of delinquent reports. Troubleshoots minor problems and contacts HIS coordinator for system issues. Logs all procedures for charging purposes and ensures the Cardiology Office receives results before the end of the day. Assumes responsibility for all actions in the workplace. Reports errors promptly and takes appropriate follow‑up to rectify them. Responds to patient and/or family complaints effectively and reports them to the manager promptly. Utilizes the chain of command to resolve operational or personal work‑related problems. Participates in performance improvement activities. Attends at least 80% of scheduled staff meetings and 100% of mandatory educational sessions. Works cooperatively with all staff and supports new staff in the environment. Performs other duties as assigned.
