Dietary Cook

The Dietary Cook prepares food for various areas of the department. Other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

General Functions:

• Prepares food for cafeteria and/or patient services and other areas as assigned.
• Follows standardized recipes.
• Works as a grill cook in cafeteria if needed.
• Preps food for production as assigned.
• Prepares salads and desserts according to standardized recipes
• Handles the preparation of the food in accordance with sanitary regulations
• Assures that all BHS standards for safety, sanitation, and HACCP are adhered to at all times.
• Adheres to local, state, and federal regulations.
• Determines whether a product is prepared correctly and decides if it is to be served
• Discerns through vision (color perception) and taste the quality of prepared food items
• Demonstrates proficiency in the operation of all equipment used in the kitchen
• Understands and applies proper sanitation regulations to the daily operations of the department
• Checks temperature of prepared foods at various times during the day
• Communicates with verbal and written skills to coworkers and supervisors
• Assures the timely delivery of food
• Checks patient trays-temperature and content
• Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively
• Maintains safe work environment
• Participates in Performance Improvement activities

Qualifications

Preferred Education: High School Graduate or equivalent

Minimum Experience: 1 year of cooking experience in a restaurant or healthcare environment

Required Certifications/Licensure: ANSI Accredited Texas Food Handler or ANSI Accredited Food Manager course or Certified Food Manager from the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District
