Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)Nexus Children's Hospital – Houston Schedule: 12-hour shifts | Days or NightsNexus Children's Hospital – Houston provides structured inpatient care for children ages 4 to 18 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD). Our interdisciplinary team works closely with patients and families to reduce aggressive behaviors, improve social functioning, and help each child successfully reintegrate into their community — because at Nexus, we're mending minds.Position SummaryThe Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides compassionate, hands-on care to children and adolescents with autism and developmental disabilities. Working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and reporting to the Director of Nursing (DON), the LVN assists with medication administration, supports behavioral interventions, and helps maintain the structured environment essential for patient safety and progress.This role requires patience, consistency, and the ability to work with patients who may have behavioral, emotional, or developmental challenges.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide direct nursing care to pediatric patients with autism and developmental disabilitiesAdminister medications and document responses according to physician orders and facility standardsSupport behavioral interventions and individualized treatment plansParticipate in daily routines, therapeutic programming, and educational activitiesObserve and document patient behavior, participation, and physical condition in the EHRRespond to patient crises using approved de-escalation techniquesCommunicate with RNs, physicians, therapists, and interdisciplinary team membersMaintain a safe, structured, and trauma-informed care environmentSupport collaboration between nursing, therapy, and education teamsPromote consistency, safety, and positive patient outcomesQualificationsCurrent Texas LVN license requiredCPR / BLS certification requiredDe-escalation training required within 30 days of hireExperience in pediatric behavioral health, autism, or IDD settings preferredAbility to work effectively within a multidisciplinary clinical teamCompassionate, patient-centered approach to careComfort working in a structured behavioral environmentOur Core Values: GOPTICAt Nexus, GOPTIC is more than a slogan—it's the foundation of how we care for children and families.Genuine – We act with honesty, integrity, and empathy in all interactions.
