Compensation Range $37.84 - 47.12 Work Schedule Monday - Friday 2:00 - 10:00 PM Purpose of Position Under general supervision of the Construction Manager, this position involves a wide variety of painter duties involving the maintenance, repair, remodeling and construction work in all Madison Metropolitan School District facilities, including surfaces containing lead (Pb) based finishes. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintenance and Repair (85%) – completing interior and exterior paint-related activities, stripping and refinishing work, patching, taping and finishing of gypsum wallboard, color mixing and matching of putty, stains and paints, assisting in estimating labor, materials and supplies, maintaining records of materials and labor. Other Duties (5%) – performing duties assigned by executive leadership, attending district and school functions, completing required training, building collaborative relationships with business partners. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Establish relationships at all levels of the organization. Follow anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion principles. Safely perform all tasks of the trade, distinguish colors, work from shop drawings, blueprints, and sketches. Plan and lay out repair and maintenance work, prepare drawings and sketches. Work cooperatively and effectively with co-workers, contractors, technical consultants, students and the public. Work varied hours and be available on an emergency basis. Exterior painting: surface preparation, material application techniques, paint removal methods. Interior painting: wood finishing, stain preparation, wall washing methods, material application techniques. Patch, tape, and finish gypsum wallboard systems. Operate and maintain airless and HVLP painting systems. Paint and stain mixing and matching. Occupational health and safety regulations related to ladders, staging, swing scaffolds, ropes, environmental and fire hazards. Set‑up and use of staging, scaffolding, ladders, swing scaffolds, moving scaffolds and lifts. Required Qualifications Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in the painting trade. Experience working cross‑culturally or commitment to cultural competence. License Requirements Valid Wisconsin Driver's License. Journeyworker Painter License/Certification preferred. Physical Requirements Frequent lifting up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting up to 70 pounds. Stationary periods, frequent sitting, driving, squatting, crouching, ladder and stair climbing, ability to handle 30 ft heights, crawling, reaching, kneeling, repetitive movements with both hands. Use of near and far vision acuity, depth perception, accommodation, field of vision, and feeling. Verbal and auditory communication frequently used. Working Conditions May involve exposure to asbestos and lead based surfaces. Travel to different district locations and off‑site meetings. Work required evenings, nights, and some weekends.
