PGS USA is currently seeking an experienced Una rmed Security Supervisor to oversee and support security operations for a high-profile national media client in Washington, D.C.

This is a hands-on leadership position for an experienced retired law-enforcement professional who is capable of supervising personnel, maintaining staffing continuity, responding to client needs, developing procedures, training security personnel, and personally supporting operations when necessary.

This individual will serve as a primary operational point of contact for the client and PGS USA within the Washington, D.C. area and must be comfortable operating in a highly responsive environment where client requirements and security needs may extend beyond normal business hours.

A current District of Columbia Special Police Officer (SPO) license with an Unarmed endorsement is mandatory for this position.

Key Responsibilities

Security Operations & Leadership

  • Provide a highly visible and professional unarmed security presence at assigned client locations.
  • Supervise, direct, coach, and support assigned unarmed and unarmed security personnel.
  • Serve as a primary on-site and regional security leadership contact for assigned operations.
  • Maintain full staffing and security coverage at assigned client locations at all times.
  • Conduct shift briefings, roll calls, post inspections, uniform inspections, performance checks, and operational reviews.
  • Ensure assigned personnel understand and comply with client post orders, security procedures, PGS USA policies, and applicable District of Columbia requirements.
  • Protect employees, executives, visitors, guests, facilities, and client property.
  • Monitor access-control points, employee entrances, visitor screening operations, restricted areas, and other security-sensitive locations.
  • Conduct security patrols and facility inspections as necessary.
  • Maintain a high level of situational awareness and identify potential security or operational concerns before they escalate.
  • Identify staffing, performance, training, or operational deficiencies and take appropriate corrective action or escalate concerns when necessary.

Staffing & Coverage Management

The Unarmed Security Supervisor is responsible for ensuring assigned locations remain appropriately staffed and operationally covered.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintain an accurate and current roster of on-call una r med and unarmed security personnel who are available to respond to staffing needs.
  • Maintain sufficient on-call resources to support operations 24 hours a day, seven days a week, Sunday through Saturday .
  • Develop and maintain relationships with reliable officers who can respond to short-notice assignments, call-offs, emergencies, special events, and additional client requests.
  • Immediately address staffing gaps caused by call-offs, vacancies, emergencies, scheduling issues, or unexpected operational requirements.
  • Contact and deploy qualified on-call personnel when additional coverage is required.
  • Coordinate staffing resources to ensure assigned client locations remain fully covered.
  • Personally provide post coverage when necessary and when another qualified replacement cannot reasonably be secured.
  • Work collaboratively with PGS USA Operations, Human Resources, Recruitment, and Risk Services to address staffing challenges and maintain operational continuity.
  • Communicate staffing concerns, vacancies, anticipated shortages, and recurring coverage issues to appropriate regional leadership.

Client Responsiveness & After-Hours Availability

This position requires a high degree of responsiveness.

The Unarmed Security Supervisor will be expected to:

  • Remain reasonably accessible by telephone outside of normal business hours for urgent operational and client-related matters.
  • Respond to after-hours calls involving staffing shortages, incidents, emergencies, client concerns, or other time-sensitive security matters.
  • Receive and coordinate client requests for additional officers, temporary coverage, special assignments, events, executive protection support within the scope of the contract, or other approved security needs.
  • Mobilize appropriate personnel and resources when the client requests additional coverage.
  • Escalate significant operational, staffing, safety, or client-service matters to appropriate PGS USA regional leadership.
  • Maintain professional and timely communication with the client throughout staffing or operational changes.
  • Serve as a dependable point of contact during emergencies, critical incidents, and periods of elevated operational activity.

Standard Operating Procedures & Training

The Unarmed Security Supervisor will play an active role in developing and maintaining professional security operations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop, draft, update, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) , post orders, emergency procedures, response protocols, and other security documentation as assigned.
  • Review existing procedures and recommend improvements based on operational experience, client requirements, risk assessments, and observed deficiencies.
  • Train newly assigned officers on client expectations, post orders, facility procedures, emergency response, access control, reporting standards, and professional conduct.
  • Conduct refresher training and remedial training when necessary.
  • Assist with Active Shooter/Active Threat, emergency-response, incident-management, and other security-related training.
  • Ensure personnel understand their responsibilities before independently assuming assigned posts.
  • Document training and communicate identified training needs to PGS USA leadership.
  • Work with regional Operations, Human Resources, Risk Services, and Recruitment personnel to improve officer readiness and overall account performance.

Incident & Emergency Response

  • Respond promptly and appropriately to alarms, disturbances, suspicious activity, security incidents, medical emergencies, threats, and other emergency situations.
  • Respond to active-threat and active-shooter incidents in accordance with established procedures, post orders, applicable law, and training.
  • Exercise sound judgment regarding de-escalation, incident escalation, detention, emergency response, and appropriate use of force.
  • Coordinate with the Metropolitan Police Department and other local, state, or federal law-enforcement and emergency-response agencies when necessary.
  • Assume an appropriate supervisory role during significant security incidents until relieved or the incident is transferred to the appropriate authority.
  • Ensure significant incidents are promptly communicated through the appropriate PGS USA and client chain of command.
  • Preserve confidentiality and sensitive information associated with incidents, investigations, personnel, executives, and client operations.

Reporting & Administration

  • Review officer incident reports, daily activity reports, and other required security documentation for accuracy, completeness, and professionalism.
  • Prepare supervisory reports regarding significant incidents, staffing concerns, officer performance, client requests, policy violations, and operational matters.
  • Maintain accurate staffing and on-call availability records.
  • Maintain records necessary to track available armed and unarmed personnel.
  • Ensure security documentation is completed and submitted within required timeframes.
  • Assist with preliminary incident reviews and fact-finding when directed.
  • Provide regular operational updates to PGS USA regional leadership and appropriate client representatives.
  • Assist with officer coaching, counseling, performance management, and corrective action in coordination with Human Resources and Operations.

Regional Support Structure

Although this position carries significant responsibility for day-to-day D.C. operations, the Unarmed Security Supervisor will not operate alone .

The position will be supported by regional and corporate personnel, including:

  • Operations
  • Human Resources
  • Risk Services
  • Recruitment

These teams will provide functional backup and support related to staffing, employee relations, recruiting, compliance, risk management, investigations, administrative requirements, and other operational needs.

The goal of this support structure is to provide the Unarmed Security Supervisor with the resources necessary to maintain strong client service, properly staffed locations, compliant operations, and successful security teams.

Required Law-Enforcement Background

Due to client requirements, candidates must be retired in good standing from a government law-enforcement agency .

Qualifying backgrounds may include retired personnel from federal, state, local, or other governmental law-enforcement agencies, including but not limited to:

Equivalent retired government law-enforcement experience may be considered based on the candidate's experience and the requirements of the client.

Candidates must have retired or separated from qualifying law enforcement in good standing .

Candidates must remain legally eligible and properly credentialed to perform duties as an Unarmed Special Police Officer in the District of Columbia .

Candidates must meet and maintain all applicable District of Columbia requirements, including, as applicable:

  • Maintain a current and valid District of Columbia Special Police Officer (SPO) license/commission for unarmed duties.

  • Complete and maintain all required District of Columbia SPO training and continuing training requirements.

  • Meet applicable criminal-history, fingerprinting, drug-screening, physical-fitness, psychological-fitness, and suitability requirements.

  • Remain appropriately affiliated or designated with an authorized District of Columbia security agency as required.

  • Comply with all applicable District of Columbia requirements governing the duties and responsibilities of an Unarmed Special Police Officer.

  • Maintain all licenses, commissions, certifications, and qualifications required by the District of Columbia, PGS USA, and the client throughout employment.

  • Report any changes to licensing or credential status that may affect eligibility to perform assigned duties.

Applicants who do not currently possess a valid District of Columbia Special Police Officer (SPO) license/commission for unarmed duties will not be considered for this position.

PGS USA will verify applicable licensing and credential status as part of the screening and onboarding process.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Retired government law-enforcement professional in good standing.
  • Current District of Columbia Special Police Officer (SPO) license/commission.
  • Current Unarmed endorsement authorizing unarmed SPO duties in the District of Columbia.
  • Prior supervisory, command, team-lead, or comparable leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing personnel and responding to operational issues.
  • Ability and willingness to respond to urgent operational calls outside of normal business hours.
  • Ability to coordinate personnel and resolve short-notice staffing needs.
  • Ability and willingness to personally provide security coverage when necessary.
  • Ability to develop SOPs, post orders, training materials, and operational procedures.
  • Ability to effectively train, coach, and develop security personnel.
  • Active Shooter/Active Threat response training.
  • Strong understanding of security operations, access control, emergency response, incident management, de-escalation, and use-of-force principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare clear, detailed, accurate, and professional reports.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and customer-service skills.
  • Excellent situational awareness and observational abilities.
  • Ability to remain calm, maintain emotional control, and make sound decisions during high-stress or rapidly evolving situations.

  • Ability to successfully complete all required PGS USA and client screening, suitability, background, drug-screening, and onboarding requirements.

District of Columbia Unarmed SPO Requirements

Candidates must remain legally eligible and properly credentialed to perform duties as an una rmed Special Police Officer in the District of Columbia .

Candidates must meet and maintain all applicable District of Columbia requirements, including, as applicable:

  • Maintain a current District of Columbia Special Police Officer license/commission.
  • Maintain a current unarmed endorsement.
  • Complete and maintain required firearms training and range qualifications.
  • Complete required SPO training and continuing training requirements.
  • Meet applicable criminal-history, fingerprinting, drug-screening, physical-fitness, psychological-fitness, and suitability requirements.
  • Remain appropriately affiliated or designated with an authorized District of Columbia security agency as required.
  • Maintain all licenses, commissions, endorsements, certifications, and qualifications required by the District of Columbia, PGS USA, and the client throughout employment.

Physical Requirements

This position requires an individual who is physically capable of:

  • Standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Conducting interior and exterior security patrols.
  • Navigating stairs and multiple areas of assigned facilities.
  • Responding quickly to alarms, emergencies, disturbances, and security incidents.
  • Wearing required uniforms, protective equipment, duty gear, and an authorized firearm while performing assigned duties.
  • Performing security officer duties and assuming an assigned post when operationally necessary.
  • Performing the physical functions reasonably necessary to protect people and property within the scope of the employee's training and legal authority.

Candidates must maintain the professional appearance, judgment, maturity, emotional control, situational awareness, and physical readiness expected of an experienced retired law-enforcement professional.

This position supports a high-profile national media client in Washington, D.C. and may provide operational support to other locations throughout the D.C. Metropolitan Area.

Compensation & Benefits

Annual Compensation Range: $58,000-$68,000

Actual compensation within the posted range will be determined based on relevant experience, law-enforcement background, leadership experience, qualifications, licensing, and other job-related factors.
