The Austin Housing Authority (AHA) is seeking a motivated and tech-curious Technical Support Intern to support its Technology Management and Innovation (TMI) Team. This role is a great opportunity to gain hands-on IT experience while contributing to a mission-driven agency. AHA has been a leader in affordable housing in the City of Austin for more than 85 years. In partnership with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, local government entities, and numerous non-profit agencies, AHA provides access to safe, stable housing to over 20,000 individuals.

What you will do in this position:

As a Technical Support Intern, you will play a valuable role in supporting the daily technology needs of a mission-driven public agency. Interns will assist with basic IT troubleshooting, help desk ticket responses, and setup of hardware and software for new staff. You'll gain hands-on experience with Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and other tools commonly used in modern office environments. Under the guidance of AHA's Technology Management and Innovation team, you'll also help maintain inventory records, support user training, and contribute to streamlining internal processes. This internship is ideal for students interested in IT support, systems administration, or public sector technology, offering both practical experience and exposure to the critical role technology plays in serving the community.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with responding to staff technical support requests (hardware, software, access issues)
• Help with setup of new computers and accounts for staff
• Support staff with basic training and troubleshooting in Google Workspace and Microsoft 365
• Track and document support issues to ensure follow-up and resolution

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a college or technical program
• Interest in IT, computer support, or systems administration
• Basic understanding of computer hardware/software
• Willingness to learn and solve problems independently and as a team
• Familiarity with Google Workspace or Microsoft 365
• Experience providing basic technical support (formally or informally)
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Internship Term & Future Opportunities

• Initial Term: Through December 31, 2026.
• Extension Opportunities: Based on performance, project needs, funding, scheduling, and academic eligibility, the internship may be extended into the spring and summer semesters for up to one full year. Any extension is discretionary and not guaranteed.
