COUNSELOR

Overview Position: Counselor - Contracted Location: Raleigh County Schools – St Francis de Sales Catholic School Responsibilities Deliver guidance curriculum in collaboration with classroom teachers and other appropriate professionals. Provide direct and indirect services to students, with at least 75% of time spent delivering direct services. Provide individual and group counseling to help students address personal problems and develop academic, social, emotional, and physical well-being. Obtain and disseminate occupational information to students. Organize orientation programs for new students entering school. Provide information for students and parents about career/educational interests and choices. Assist in scheduling for new students (course subjects, credit verification, records, etc.). Assist in the screening and placement of students in appropriate classes or programs. Coordinate follow-up reports for graduates. Provide crisis intervention for students with serious, urgent, or chronic problems. Work to prevent student dropouts through individual and group counseling. Provide information on at-risk programs to students and parents. Coordinate referrals to pupil services and community agencies (e.g., mental health, human services). Consult with teachers, staff, and parents regarding academic and personal/social needs of students. Interpret test results for students, teachers, and parents upon request. Use and analyze student data to maximize performance and opportunities. Collect and analyze counseling program data to improve delivery. Limit counselor-related administrative duties to no more than 25% of the workday. Perform duties in accordance with ASCA National Model and participate in required in-service programs. Stay current through professional development and share knowledge with staff. Demonstrate punctuality and dependability; perform other duties as assigned by the principal. Professional Responsibilities Plan, prepare, and implement new programs or facilitate changes in existing programs. Organize, direct, and coordinate programs; gather and interpret data for individuals, groups or programs. Deliver services to students or others and collaborate with school personnel and/or parents to coordinate service delivery. Facilitate professional development activities and improve individual competencies to deliver services. Demonstrate competency in technology standards. Qualifications Valid Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling; must hold or be eligible for a West Virginia Service Certificate in Guidance and Counseling. Criminal background check as required by WV Code. Physical Demands Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Ability to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and staff members. Reports To: SCHOOL PRINCIPAL / FED PROG ASST DIR / DIRECTOR Salary Schedule: $25 per hour Hours: Up to 30 hours per week; Up to 35 weeks in the 2026-2027 school term Source of Funding: Federal Grant; TITLE I, PRIVATE SCHOOLS Application and Requirements Attention: All applicants for posted professional positions must include a list of specialized training relevant to the performance of the duties of the job within the Frontline system.
