Department: Administrative Services – Administration FLSA: Exempt General Summary : This is the working-level class in the Coordinator series. Employees in this class assist higher-level program coordinators, management, or supervisory/management staff with various program tasks and projects covering a range of issues related to program assignments. In addition, the Coordinator I is assigned ongoing projects or areas of responsibility. Assignments are made under general supervision, allowing the Coordinator I latitude in managing and completing ongoing projects/assignments. Assignments and objectives are set for the employee, and established work methods are to be followed. The employee has some flexibility in selecting steps and the timing of a work process. Work review is occasional during progress and upon completion. Normally, the employee is responsible for handling routine work problems and the satisfactory achievement of specified objectives. Examples of Duties & Responsibilities: Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Plan, organize, direct, coordinate, and evaluate the activities of assigned program; assign and coordinate work; evaluate the performance of subordinates and recommends disciplinary action. Evaluate program needs and develop an effective program; develop procedures within areas of responsibility and instruction materials to assist in accomplishing program goals. Prepare and submit budget requests for the program; estimate future needs of the program in terms of personnel, equipment, supplies, and space; consults with superiors on priorities and availability of funding and other sources; develops grant proposals and other fundraising programs; monitor expenditures; may negotiate contracts with subcontractors. Conduct needs assessments, research, and analyzes statistical and other data; makes recommendations on administrative and operational problems, policies, and procedures. Assist in the recruitment and selection of interns and volunteers; represent the City in the community and at interdepartmental, interagency, and professional meetings. Assist in the development and implementation of safety-related programs and initiatives, including identifying potential hazards and supporting efforts to reduce workplace risks. Ability to develop and implement city-wide training programs regarding safe work practices, accident prevention methods; conduct safety training and assist supervisors or others to conduct safety training by preparing training materials and providing guidance and support as needed. Knowledge of conducting routine site visits to identify hazards, ensuring compliance with OSHA and California-specific safety orders. Investigating injury validity, reviewing medical evaluations, and ensuring compliance with California Labor Code regulations. Ability to participate in the review of hazardous materials business plans; review proposed projects for compliance with Federal, State, and local laws. Assist in reviewing reports, documentation, and records related to workplace incidents; supports accident investigations and helps track corrective actions. Knowledge of Site Safety: Experience with daily tailgate safety briefings and PPE enforcement. Build and maintain positive working relationships with staff, stakeholders, and community members to support program goals and initiatives. Ability to elicit community and organizational support for safety programs, and present materials to a wide variety of audiences. Ability to operate modern computer equipment and applicable software programs, such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and databases; and use modern office equipment and technology in an effective and safe manner. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in a related field is desired Two(2) years of relevant professional experience Equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered Other Requirements: Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software. Knowledge: Strong understanding of California Workers' Compensation laws, Cal/OSHA regulations, California Health and Safety Code and DOT standards. Licenses/Certificates/Other Requirements: Possession of a valid California driver's license by the time of appointment and legally required vehicle insurance. Must be able to meet driving standards set by the City's vehicle use policy. Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid OSHA HAZWOPER Certification within one year of appointment.
