Ping Maintenance Specialist

The Ping Maintenance Specialist assists with all aspects of maintenance operations at the Charles J. Ping Recreation Center. The role of the Maintenance Specialist is to assume responsibilities including but not limited to assisting with preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, and other duties as assigned throughout the facility.

Major Responsibilities:

• Assist in the overall implementation of the Ping Center equipment maintenance program
• Assist in the development of new policies and procedures related to Ping Center equipment
• Participate in Ping Center training events
• Work in close relationship with Ping Member Service Assistants and Ping Supervisors to ensure efficient and proper functioning of the facility and equipment
• Serve as a customer service representative
• Conduct research on equipment and other issues related to Ping Center movable equipment

Specific Tasks:

• Maintain appearance, stock and organization of the equipment maintenance shop
• Perform preventative maintenance tasks and report facility problems to the Assistant Director, Ping Recreation Center
• Responsible for maintaining daily work orders
• Update and supply equipment maintenance shop with appropriate forms
• Communicate regularly with fellow Maintenance Specialists and Professional Staff
• Complete projects assigned by professional staff
• Work in conjunction with graduate assistants and other facility employees
• Performs other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring efficient and effective daily operations

Job Profile: Performs a variety of tasks, which may include general facilities maintenance, equipment cleaning and maintenance, performing manual labor, cleaning and preparing rooms for use, landscaping/grounds work, painting, and assisting with campus/facility beautification efforts. Position may operate hand equipment (push mowers, weed eaters, edgers, leaf blowers, etc.)

Level Summary: Performs basic tasks and assists with administrative or operational duties under supervision. Roles are entry-level and aimed at providing exposure to workplace environments.

Minimum Qualifications: Enrolled for classes at Ohio University, Hocking College, another post-secondary education institution, or a secondary school during the current semester, immediate previous semester, or immediate upcoming semester. Able to follow instructions and complete tasks within deadlines. Basic knowledge of office software and communication tools. Departments may have specific minimum requirements.

Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrate willingness and ability to learn. Possess some experience or interest in mechanical, engineering, or related fields. Previous experience working on/with exercise equipment and/or similar mechanical equipment. Display exceptional communication skills. Display a high level of professionalism in dealing with customers and co-workers. Be able to make sound decisions. Be flexible and be able to work well with others. Computer knowledge of programs such as Word and Excel. Willingness to become certified in CPR, AED, and First-Aid. Ability to complete tasks independently or collaboratively.

Working Condition/Physical Demands: This role is primarily active and away from a desk. Moving and lifting is required for the function of this job.
