POSITION SUMMARY

The Medical Lab Technician (MLT) ensures the smooth flow of laboratory patients, specimens and information and performs chemical, microbiological and hematological tests to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Records laboratory test data, patient and quality control information and is actively involved in quality control procedures, review and corrective action. Maintains care of expensive laboratory equipment and instruments as well as the judicious use of materials. Assists in training new lab personnel, externs and students and carefully handles infectious material to protect all laboratory personnel. Utilizes knowledge of human physiology and science to evaluate test results for accuracy.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

• Current Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) License is required.
• Previous laboratory experience preferred.
• Knowledge of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Ability to work well with other people in times of medical emergencies and in a fast-paced, heavy workload environment

Color discrimination required to stain slides and to distinguish various shades and colors of specimens; near-visual acuity required to read detailed instructions and to examine specimens; finger and manual dexterity required to handle specimens and small pieces of laboratory equipment; form perception required to see detail of specimens under microscopic study.
