EEG Technologist I Entry to mid-level position in the neurophysiology department. Responsibilities Perform EEG procedures according to Emory Healthcare policy and procedures. Compete in routine IP/OP EEG, ambulatory EEG, continuous long‑term video hookups/baseline recordings. Maintain patient safety during clinically significant events. Provide technical impressions of EEGs and promptly communicate clinically relevant events in real time. Participate in on‑call rotation at designated locations. Maintain optimal recording integrity, equipment maintenance, and troubleshooting. Perform routine IP/OP EEG and LTME in the EMU and ICU settings following facility policy, procedures, and ACNS guidelines. Set up tests, collect patient history, apply electrodes per 10‑20 guidelines, acquire EEG data, give technical impression, and ensure patient safety during recordings. Operate video recording equipment, ensuring proper camera focus, lighting, and microphone levels. Document clinically significant events and identify electrically significant EEG patterns; follow policies for communicating critical test results. Monitor EEG quality, troubleshoot acquisition equipment to eliminate or mitigate artifacts. Communicate shift‑hand‑off information regarding pending orders and current patients to ensure a smooth transition of care. Ensure EEG equipment is clean, stocked, and ready for deployment at all times. Complete all administrative tasks associated with neurodiagnostic procedures. Monitor stock levels and restock supplies as needed. Participate in research projects, conferences, department in‑services/lectures, earning at least 10 ACE CEUs per year. Perform other related duties consistent with patient and technical care for this level. Minimum Qualifications Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification per American Heart Association. High school graduate or equivalent; entry‑level PC or Microsoft Windows knowledge. Six months experience in neurodiagnostics. One year performing EEGs or graduation from a CAAHEP‑accredited neurodiagnostic program preferred. Physical Requirements Medium: 20‑50 lbs (0‑33% of work day occasionally), 11‑25 lbs (34‑66% frequently), 01‑10 lbs (67‑100% constantly); lifting up to 50 lbs; carrying up to 25 lbs; occasional to frequent standing, walking, occasional sitting; close eye work with computers, typing, reading, writing. Physical demands vary by work area and tasks. Environmental Factors Environmental exposures include blood‑borne pathogens, bio‑hazardous waste, chemicals, gases, fumes, vapors, communicable diseases, electrical shock, floor surfaces, hot/cold temperatures, indoor/outdoor conditions, latex, lighting, patient care injuries, radiation.
