Nurse Practitioner III, Clinical Translational Research & Community Engagement

Overview The Nurse Practitioner III, Clinical Translational Research & Community Engagement is responsible for developing, implementing, leading and supporting clinical translational research, health services, and community engagement initiatives while providing patient-centered care in a community-based setting. The role involves both direct patient care and strategic input in clinical translational research, health services, and community engagement programs, aiming to enhance health outcomes in the community. The NP willCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure culturally responsive, evidence-based care and to promote the institution’s research vision and mission. Responsibilities Strategically work with the Assistant Vice President for Clinical Translational Research & Community Engagement on initiatives. Support efforts to obtain Carnegie Community Engagement Classification, including town halls, focus groups, and surveys. Provide comprehensive, culturally competent clinical care to community members on diseases such as cancer screening, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, infectious disease, and preventive services. Develop and implement patient-centered initiatives to address community health needs. Conduct health assessments, diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions, and promote preventive health strategies. Collaborate with healthcare providers, community organizations, and public health agencies to improve access to services and resources. Educate community members and community health workers on preventive care and health topics; educate researchers on community engagement frameworks. Collect and analyze health data to identify trends, track progress, and adapt care strategies to improve outcomes. Advocate for policies and practices that improve health outcomes. Participate in training and development activities focused on cultural competency, health literacy, and best practices. Provide support for clinical research and mobile health programs. Ensure successful implementation of research infrastructures and partnerships. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Education Required: Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing. Licensing & Certification Required: Active licensure as a Nurse Practitioner registered in Texas in good standing or eligible to become registered in Texas. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of: Legal and regulatory requirements (Federal, State, Local). Health trends locally and across communities. Conflict of interest and ethics requirements, including federal research requirements. Other job-related software and systems. Skilled in: Verbal and written communication. Building high-performing teams with stakeholders. Staff and performance management. Strategic and operational management and planning. Financial planning and resource allocation. Leading and implementing change. Ability to: Maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure (communications, networks, cybersecurity, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment, or water treatment). Work Experience Required: Minimum three (3) years of clinical/health care services as an NP working with general populations, ideally in community health or similar settings. Preferred: Bilingual skills; experience in data collection, program evaluation, and quality improvement; familiarity with health outcomes frameworks and policies; experience with clinical research and/or mobile health programs; strong understanding of health outcomes, determinants, and culturally responsive care. Working/Environmental Conditions Routine office environment; mobile health unit; mostly seated or standing. Local travel (~30%) with mileage reimbursement. Annual travel to conferences with cost reimbursable under grant funding.
