Compensation & Benefits

• Salary Range: $135,000 $155,000 (Commensurate with experience and surgical speed).

Core Duties & Responsibilities

• High-Volume Spay/Neuter: Perform efficient, high-quality spay and neuter surgeries for shelter dogs and cats (pediatric to adult) to ensure animals are made available for adoption as quickly as possible.
• Soft Tissue Surgery: Perform additional surgeries as needed, including mass removals, entropion repair, enucleations, amputations, and wound repairs.
• Surgical Oversight: Oversee anesthetic protocols and monitor patients from induction through recovery, ensuring the veterinary team maintains the highest safety standards.
• Intake Protocols: Establish and oversee intake exams to identify infectious diseases (Parvo, Panleukopenia, URI, Ringworm) immediately upon entry to prevent shelter-wide outbreaks.
• Capacity for Care (C4C): Actively manage the medical population to reduce "Length of Stay" (LOS). Every day an animal waits for medical clearance is a day they are not in a home.
• Protocol Development: Create and update evidence-based medical protocols for common shelter ailments to allow registered vet technicians (RVTs) to treat routine cases efficiently under your guidance.
• Stray Intake Management: Assess medical needs of incoming strays from Butler County Animal Control, making humane decisions regarding treatment plans and quality of life.
• Foster Support: Provide medical guidance for animals in foster care, including neonates and medical/behavioral cases, to keep them out of the shelter environment until they are adopted.

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

• Education: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) from an accredited university.
• Licensure: Current (or eligible for) Veterinary License in the State of Ohio in good standing.
• DEA License: Ability to obtain a DEA license for controlled substances.
• Surgical Competence: Comfort performing spay/neuter surgeries independently.

Preferred:

• Shelter Experience: 2+ years of experience in a shelter or high-volume clinic setting.
• HQHVSN Training: Experience with "pediatric" spays/neuters and proficiency in high-volume techniques.
• Fear Free Certified: Understanding of low-stress handling techniques to improve the mental health of shelter animals.
