Overview Substance Abuse Technician - Behavioral Health role at Bernalillo County with a $2,000 incentive for external new hires. Location: 5901 Zuni Rd SE. Pay: $18.60 - $26.50 hourly. Responsibilities Obtain relevant information about clients through interview, assessment and case history; assist and support clients through addiction detoxification and recovery; observe, intervene and report client adherence to program goals and objectives. Work with other department staff to administer scheduled program curriculum and activities for treatment and rehabilitation of substance abuse. Gather and research data to track the reliability and validity of treatment; make recommendations regarding modification of services and service delivery. Process new clients (clothing, orientation to facility rules) and assist clients with daily activities and informational literature. Provide education to individuals and groups in the community; facilitate group presentations and workshops. Transport clients to appointments and other service locations outside of the assigned program. Maintain progress notes and document behavioral incidents; manage confidential records. Participate in reviews of job performance and adhere to recommended measures for change. Receive guidance and training from Program Supervisor within the division and maintain knowledge on counseling issues through conferences and networking. Perform other job-related duties as assigned or required; handle sensitive and confidential information as needed. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma Two (2) years of work experience involving substance abuse, healthcare, law enforcement, emergency management, or corrections. Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered. Preferences Experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) preferred. Screening and Compliance Post-offer medical examination and background investigation required. This position is safety sensitive; pre-employment and random drug testing as per federal and state rules. Caregiver criminal history screening required for new hires; disqualifying convictions may impact hire. Valid New Mexico driver’s license required by employment date and must be maintained during employment. May require shifts, reassignments, FEMA training, and potential overtime as needed. Working Conditions Indoor, climate-controlled environment. Primary work surface is even, dry, carpeted or tiled floor. Works independently and with groups; may work with a designated team at times. Equipment, Tools, and Materials Office equipment: telephone, computer, printer, copy machine; handling of various forms of paperwork.
