Registered Nurse Med/Surg Oncology

Contract | Nights | 312-Hour Shifts (6:45 PM 7:15 AM) | Every other weekend required

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to a general medical-surgical oncology patient population, including patients receiving chemotherapy, biotherapy (IV, PO, or injection), and those with diagnoses such as AKI, sepsis, cancer, septic shock, malignant neoplasms, and diabetic foot ulcers
• Perform and manage clinical skills including port access, central line blood draws, PICC line management, peripheral line care, blood product administration, heparin and insulin drips, colostomy care, wound care/wound vac, surgical drains, and chest tube management
• Maintain patient ratios of 1:6; during periods of increased census, ratios may be higher
• Float to similar units and alternate care locations as needed, including inpatient holding areas
• Document using EPIC, communicate via SBAR, and manage medications through PYXIS
• Attend monthly staff meetings and make up any called-out shifts as rescheduled; contract staff may be required to participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments during catastrophic events or disasters

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in North Carolina or a Compact state (pending license acceptable for submission)
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of inpatient nursing experience required
• Willingness to obtain the ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Administration certification prior to or during the assignment; onsite training is available
• Must pass EKG testing prior to assignment start
• Candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are welcome to apply; a local rate will apply

Preferred Experience / Skills

• ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Administration certification already obtained
• Experience with non-invasive airway management, nasal cannula, isolation precautions, and chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
• Familiarity with EPIC, PYXIS, and SBAR communication frameworks
• First-time travelers are accepted
