SUMMARY:
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Title I Reading Intervention Teacher to join our team at Merritt Elementary. This full-time (1.0FTE) position is focused on supporting students who require additional assistance in developing their reading skills. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with educators, parents, and students to create a positive and effective learning environment that fosters literacy development and a love for reading.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
As a Title I Reading Intervention Teacher, your primary mission is to support students in grades K-2 through small-group instruction. The ideal candidate uses data-driven decision making to identify student needs, plan effective interventions and monitor progress to ensure measurable growth in reading. This position works closely with the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and Programs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of teaching
  • Considerable knowledge of techniques applicable in conducting classes for children and adults
  • Considerable knowledge of adapting teaching methods and materials to meet the interests and learning styles of students
  • Considerable knowledge of texts, materials, supplies and equipment
  • Ability to formulate courses of study and select instruction aids
  • Ability to prepare lesson plans, conduct classes, construct tests, and interpret test results
  • Ability to evaluate the ability, progress, behavior, and attitudes of students
  • Ability to maintain discipline
  • Ability to maintain the interest and cooperation of the maladjusted
  • Ability to maintain records, and prepare reports and correspondence related to the work
  • Ability to establish and communicate clear objectives for lessons, units and projects
  • Ability to maintain favorable public relations
  • Encourage students to explore learning opportunities and career paths
  • Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, coworkers and supervisors
  • Create a safe, respectful and inclusive classroom environment
  • Knowledge of data-driven instruction and ability to interpret assessment data to inform teaching
  • Ability to integrate educational technology tools and platforms to support learning
  • Familiarity with culturally responsive pedagogy and trauma-informed teaching practices
  • Ability to differentiate instruction for students with diverse learning needs, including ELLs and students with IEPs/504s
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and DUTIES Additional duties may be assigned.
  • Provides researched-based reading intervention consistent with the existing systems and identified needs/unique abilities of each student to promote individual student growth
  • Provide direct instruction to students
  • Manage building data wall
  • Assist with the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of resources to provide Tier II & Tier III interventions under a Multi-Tiered System of Support framework
  • Provide intervention system-level and student-level data while acting as a member of Professional Learning Communities and Student Assistance Teams
  • Understand the importance of a whole child philosophy

REQUIRED SKILLS and ABILITIES
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Michigan teaching certification with Secondary endorsement (ZG Required; ZK Preferred)
  • Knowledge of the Science of Reading and Common Core
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to analyze data and use it to progress monitor students, evaluate systems and drive instructional change
PREFERRED SKILLS and ABILITIES
  • Master's Degree in Reading, English, Special Education or Educational Leadership
  • Additional knowledge of interventions including Orton-Gillinham, UFLI etc.
  • Successful completion of LETRs training or willingness to do so
  • Familiarity with the GELN/MAISA Essential Instructional Practices
  • Experiences with the PLC process
  • At least five years of classroom teaching experience
