Material, Logistics & Tool Management Manager Position Summary The Material, Logistics & Tool Management Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing all material management, warehousing, logistics, laydown operations, and tool management activities across fabrication facilities and active construction projects. This position plays a critical role in ensuring field and shop personnel have the materials, tools, equipment, and logistical support required to execute work safely, efficiently, and productively. This role will lead warehouse, logistics, and tool management personnel while working closely with Operations, Procurement, Project Management, Project Controls, Fabrication, and Field Leadership teams. The successful candidate will develop and implement scalable systems, processes, and controls that support multiple projects, trades, and locations while maintaining accountability, organization, and cost efficiency. The ideal candidate understands industrial construction operations and can effectively bridge the gap between procurement, warehousing, fabrication, and field execution. Key Responsibilities Material Management Develop and implement company-wide material management processes and standards. Oversee receiving, inspection, storage, preservation, inventory control, staging, and distribution of project materials. Ensure accurate tracking of materials from purchase through installation. Establish and maintain material traceability requirements when required by project specifications. Monitor material shortages, overages, damaged goods, and discrepancies. Coordinate material transfers between warehouses, fabrication facilities, and project sites. Develop reporting and tracking systems to provide material status updates to project teams and leadership. Warehouse & Yard Operations Manage all Regional warehouses, storage facilities, and project laydown yards. Develop warehouse layouts and storage strategies that maximize space utilization and operational efficiency. Ensure proper material handling, storage, preservation, and protection practices. Maintain inventory accuracy through routine cycle counts, physical inventories, and audits. Implement and maintain warehouse management systems and inventory controls. Establish and enforce housekeeping, organization, and storage standards across all facilities. Coordinate transportation, loading, unloading, and movement of materials between locations. Site Logistics & Laydown Management Develop and manage site logistics plans for construction projects. Coordinate laydown yard utilization, traffic flow, material staging, and equipment access. Work with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Construction Managers to forecast upcoming material requirements. Ensure materials are staged and sequenced to support construction schedules and productivity goals. Coordinate heavy-haul deliveries, crane picks, oversized loads, and critical material movements. Minimize material handling costs and reduce unnecessary material movement. Tool & Equipment Management Develop and oversee company-wide tool and equipment management programs. Manage tool cribs, tool inventory systems, and tool accountability processes. Maintain accurate tracking of company-owned tools, specialty equipment, and construction assets. Implement barcode, RFID, GPS, or other asset-tracking systems to improve accountability and visibility. Establish tool issuance, return, and accountability procedures for field personnel. Coordinate tool deployment based on manpower forecasts and project requirements. Monitor utilization and recommend purchases, transfers, rentals, or retirement of assets. Ensure calibration, certification, inspection, and maintenance requirements are met for applicable tools and equipment. Reduce tool loss, theft, damage, and unnecessary replacement costs through effective controls and audit programs. Develop standard tool packages and support plans for electrical, piping, structural steel, civil, scaffolding, mechanical, and coatings crews. Support project shutdowns, turnarounds, and major mobilizations with advance planning and resource allocation. Lead warehouse supervisors, logistics coordinators, material coordinators, tool crib personnel, and yard personnel. Recruit, train, develop, and evaluate logistics and warehouse team members. Establish performance expectations, accountability standards, and development plans. Develop staffing plans aligned with project workload and company growth. Promote a culture focused on safety, teamwork, organization, accountability, and customer service. Provide leadership and direction across multiple facilities and project sites. Project Support Participate in project kick-off meetings, planning sessions, and execution reviews. Collaborate with Operations and Project Controls to align material availability with project schedules. Develop key performance metrics and reporting systems for material, logistics, and tool management activities. Support fabrication operations and field construction teams with resource planning and logistics coordination. Assist project teams during peak manpower periods, major shutdowns, outages, and turnaround events. Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce costs, and streamline workflows. Safety & Compliance Ensure all logistics, warehouse, and tool management activities are conducted safely and in compliance with company policies. Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety standards. Oversee forklift, rigging, material handling, and equipment operation training requirements. Ensure proper loading, unloading, securement, and transport of materials and equipment. Support quality assurance requirements related to material handling, storage, and traceability. Conduct regular audits and inspections of warehouse, laydown, and tool management operations. Required Qualifications 10+ years of experience in industrial construction, heavy construction, manufacturing, logistics, material management, or supply chain operations. 5+ years of leadership experience managing warehouse, logistics, material management, or construction support personnel. Experience supporting self-perform industrial construction operations. Strong understanding of industrial construction materials, equipment, and workflows. Experience supporting multiple concurrent projects and geographically dispersed operations. Ability to read construction drawings, specifications, material takeoffs, packing lists, and procurement reports. Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Proficient with ERP systems, inventory management software, Microsoft Office, and project tracking tools. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Construction Management, Operations Management, Business, or a related field. Experience in industrial sectors such as: Manufacturing Mining Power Generation Data Centers Oil & Gas Renewable Energy Heavy Industrial Construction Experience with warehouse management systems and tool tracking software. Experience with ERP platforms such as Dynamics, Oracle, SAP, JD Edwards, or Viewpoint. Familiarity with Lean Construction, Six Sigma, APICS, CSCP, or related certifications. Experience supporting fabrication shop operations and material flow management. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) This role will be measured on: Material availability to construction crews. Inventory accuracy and accountability. Tool utilization and asset accountability. Warehouse and laydown yard efficiency. Reduction of material and tool loss. On-time material deliveries and staging. Material handling and logistics costs. Warehouse labor productivity. Safety performance. Customer satisfaction from project teams and field operations. Project support responsiveness and execution effectiveness. Ideal Candidate Profile The ideal candidate is a construction-focused operations leader who understands that productivity in the field depends on having the right materials, tools, equipment, and support resources available when and where they are needed. They possess strong leadership skills, a process-driven mindset, and the ability to build and manage scalable logistics systems that support multiple industrial construction projects and self-perform trades. This individual serves as a key partner to Operations and Project Leadership by ensuring material, logistics, and tool management never become constraints to safe, profitable project execution.
