Job Title: CNC Mill Machinist (5-Axis, Swing Shift)

Job Description

This role focuses on operating 5-axis CNC mills on the swing shift to machine highly complex aerospace and space structures and components. You will work with both hard metals and aluminum, producing precision parts for commercial, defense, and space applications in a world-class aerospace machine shop.

Responsibilities

• Operate 3, 4, and 5-axis vertical and horizontal CNC mills, including 5-axis CNC Mill Makino Mag 3 machines, to produce precision aerospace components.
• Set up machines by installing pallets, vises, tombstones, and fixtures to ensure accurate and stable machining operations.
• Machine highly complex aero-structures and space components, including large parts up to approximately 110"–120" in size.
• Work with both hard metals and aluminum, including components used in missile beds, launch platforms, and other defense-related applications.
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T to ensure parts meet exact design requirements.
• Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and height gauges to verify dimensions and tolerances.
• Apply basic math, geometry, and trigonometry to calculate dimensions, offsets, and tool paths as needed.
• Monitor machining operations, make necessary adjustments, and ensure parts meet quality standards and customer specifications.
• Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot issues, improve processes, and maintain efficient production flow.
• Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area in the machine shop.

Essential Skills

• Experience operating 3, 4, and 5-axis vertical and horizontal CNC mills.
• Ability to operate 5-axis CNC Mill Makino Mag 3 machines or similar equipment.
• Proficiency in reading blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and interpreting GD&T.
• Ability to use precision measuring tools, including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and height gauges.
• Competence in basic math, geometry, and trigonometry for machining applications.
• Capability to set up machines by installing pallets, vises, tombstones, and fixtures.
• Dependable work habits and a strong drive and ambition to learn machining.
• Willingness to work swing shift in a production machine shop environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous aerospace manufacturing experience is highly desirable.
• Experience machining aluminum and defense-related components is a plus.
• Familiarity with high-speed machining of complex hard metals and aluminum.
• Comfort working with complex assemblies and large-part machining, including nutating head and gantry-style machines.
• Openness to training and continuous skill development, including candidates with limited machining experience.
• Interest in growing into lead, supervisory, or management roles over time.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Auburn, WA.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr.
