South Asheville Veterinary Emergency & Specialty (SAVES) is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our Emergency & Critical Care team in Asheville, NC. This is an opportunity to work alongside emergency veterinarians and board-certified specialists while caring for complex, high-acuity patients in a 24/7 emergency and specialty hospital.

Compensation

• $24–$34/hr based on experience

• $1,500 annual CE allowance for Registered Veterinary Technician team members

• Additional compensation available for VTS candidates

Schedule

• Full-time

• Three 12-hour shifts or four 10-hour shifts

• Day or overnight schedules available

• On-call rotation required

• Holiday rotation required

Responsibilities

As a Veterinary Technician on the Emergency & Critical Care team, you will provide hands-on care for emergency and hospitalized patients while supporting veterinarians with diagnostics, treatments, and procedures.

• Triage emergency and critical care patients and assist with initial assessment

• Provide nursing care and monitoring for hospitalized and ICU patients

• Assist veterinarians with emergency procedures, diagnostics, and treatments

• Perform laboratory testing, sample collection, and patient monitoring

• Support advanced diagnostic imaging and specialty procedures

• Administer medications, fluids, and treatments accurately as directed

• Assist with CPR, trauma cases, and other emergency interventions

• Monitor patient status and promptly communicate changes to the medical team

• Maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation

• Provide compassionate, professional communication and client support

• Collaborate closely with emergency veterinarians, Veterinary Technicians, assistants, and specialty teams

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe patient care environment

Qualifications

• Registered, Certified, or Licensed Veterinary Technician (RVT/CVT/LVT)

• Minimum 2 years of veterinary emergency or specialty experience preferred

• Experience working in a fast-paced ER, ICU, or critical care environment strongly preferred

• Strong technical, communication, and teamwork skills

• Advanced patient handling and restraint skills

• Ability to remain calm, organized, and adaptable in high-acuity situations

• Experience with ezyVet and SmartFlow preferred

• Commitment to continued learning and professional development

• Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

• Fluent English speaking and reading skills required.
