Coordinator Health Services

The job of Coordinator Health Services was established for the purpose of managing the district's health services department, assigned personnel, and related activities; oversight of department personnel for the purpose of hiring, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution; collaborating with community partners and district departments, directing health services to ensure effective and quality health care delivery; planning, coordinating, and evaluating clinical aspects of the district health services program; and researching various health and legal issues pertinent to the success of the health services program.

This job reports to Assistant Superintendent Equity & Student Services

Essential Functions

• Collaborates with community health partners including Jackson County Health Department for the purpose of studying student health, illness and disease prevention, and risk mitigation.
• Directs student health services for the purpose of ensuring utilization of personnel in compliance with district requirements and meeting state-mandated requirements.
• Evaluates health services programs and staff for the purpose of ensuring effective and quality health services resources for the district.
• Leads a variety of meetings, workshops, seminars and interdisciplinary teams (e.g. LSR-7 Health Advisory Committee; Registered Nurse monthly meetings, etc.) for the purpose of gathering, conveying and/or sharing information on students' health needs, service delivery, and educational programs; and/or improving skills and knowledge.
• Collaborates with LSR-7 nursing staff to Identify student and building related health needs throughout the LSR-7 District for the purpose of providing quality health services.
• Plans and coordinates clinical aspects of the school health services for the purpose of providing adequate health resources for the care of students.
• Provides training to Health Services staff on health related subjects (e.g. CPR, disaster preparedness, medication management, policies and procedures, etc.) for the purpose of promoting student and staff safety.
• Reports health and safety issues to administration and appropriate agencies (e.g. principals, staff, Jackson County Health Department, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining students' personal safety, a positive learning environment and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.
• Researches a variety of topics relating to health and medical care (e.g. wellness, treatment protocols, childhood diseases, etc.) for the purpose of providing information to staff for appropriate student treatment.
• Supervises nursing staff for the purpose of providing support, leadership, guidance, input, and direction of health services.
• Participates in a variety of district interdisciplinary teams (e.g. Health & Wellness, District Special Services Team, Emergency Operations Team, etc.) to address health related needs.
• Provides input and feedback to the Director of Special Services in the evaluation of Health Services department objectives and goals.

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Skills are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; administering first aid; handling hazardous materials/waste; operating equipment used in clinical setting; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.

Knowledge is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: health standards and hazards; safety practices and procedures; stages of child development; pediatric and family nursing practices; community health concepts; and pertinent policies, codes, regulations and/or laws.

Ability is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is significant. Responsibility Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; and tracking budget expenditures. Work Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 60% walking, and 30% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness. The District RN must provide their own vehicle to move between the multiple sites they manage.

Experience: Job related experience preferred.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing; Master's degree in Nursing or other Healthcare related field is preferred.
