Safety Technician

IMMEDIATE HIRE - APPLY TODAY SAFETY TECH Job Summary As part of the Orion Engineers + Constructors Field Services Division, the Safety Technician is assigned to client site locations and is responsible for on-site safety monitoring and compliance activities, including but not limited to confined space entry watch, atmospheric testing, hot work monitoring, and hazard identification. This position serves as a visible safety presence in the field, ensuring all work is performed in strict compliance with OSHA, company, and client safety standards. The role requires close coordination with the clients representatives, contracted crews, and Orions internal safety management, while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and safety awareness on-site. Responsibilities and Functions Monitor all work areas to ensure strict compliance with safety protocols and regulations, focusing on confined spaces, hot work, and other high-risk activities.Serve as a hole watch/attendant for confined space entry, ensuring all entry, rescue, and atmospheric monitoring requirements are met, and unauthorized entry is prevented.Conduct routine and spot safety inspections, actively identify and report hazards or non-compliance issues; recommend immediate corrective actions where needed.Participate in or lead emergency response procedures and drills; assist in evacuations or medical emergencies until relieved by response teams. Support the implementation of safety programs, initiatives, and on-site training by the company and client; help conduct or deliver toolbox talks and safety meetings as required.Assist in incident and near-miss investigations by collecting evidence, providing statements, and supporting root cause analysis and corrective action tracking.Enforce and verify proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE); educate personnel on required PPE for each task and inspect PPE for serviceability. Communicate proactively and professionally with all employees, contractors, client representatives, and management to resolve safety observations and promote a culture of safety.Document safety activities, inspections, observations, and corrective actions in accordance with company/client policies; maintain accurate logs and records.Perform tasks under the direction of the clients representative, the clients safety and management team, and division/company management, maintaining dual compliance with both organizational and client site-specific procedures.Safely operate equipment and technology needed for safety monitoring, such as gas monitors and electronic reporting devices.Perform additional duties as assigned in support of continuous improvement and operational needs. Skills & Qualifications Basic understanding of OSHA regulations related to confined spaces, hazardous work environments, PPE, lockout/tagout, and hazard communication.Familiarity with hot work, line breaking, and permit-required confined space entry procedures.Experience in a safety, field monitoring, or technician role within an industrial, manufacturing, petroleum, or chemical facility.Demonstrated ability to carry out safety inspections, incident reporting, and hazard assessments.Ability to remain alert and attentive through extended shifts and monitoring sessions.Strong communication and interpersonal skills to provide feedback, coaching, and collaborate across varying teams (company, client, contractors).Ability to complete required safety documentation clearly and accurately, using paper forms or electronic systems.Ability to work collaboratively with personnel at all site levels and with other departments.Must be able to pass a pre-employment and client-requested background check, as well as pre-employment and ongoing/random drug screenings.Eligibility to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.Preferred but not required: Safety training or certifications (e.g., OSHA 10/30-hour, confined space entry/attendant, HAZWOPER, First Aid/CPR). Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent required Safety training or certifications preferred.Minimum of 3+ years of experience in industrial safety roles, particularly involving confined spaces or similar environments. Work Environment & Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is based at a clients operating plant, with the work location and schedule determined by the clients operational needs.Must be able to work in conditions typical of an industrial facility, following the clients safety culture and pace. This includes extended standing or walking, climbing, bending, stooping, exposure to process equipment, noise, varying weather conditions, and hot climates.Requires normal hearing; clear close and distance vision; depth perception; and the ability to focus, reach, and maintain balance.May involve periods of desk work requiring use of standard office equipment, keyboards, and computers.Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds.Must be able to drive a company vehicle to and from job sites or office locations if required.PPE, including flame-resistant clothing, hard hat, gloves, and eye/ear protection, must be worn during facility job walks or field work.Travel to other client locations within the region may be required.
