Job Description

The yard worker supports a high-volume vehicle processing operation by checking in, cleaning, and documenting vehicles that arrive after accidents so they are ready for auction. This role involves working outdoors in a junk yard or lot environment, using a handheld device to record vehicle details and take photos, and treating every vehicle with care regardless of its condition. The position requires consistent physical activity, attention to detail, and the ability to follow established processes while maintaining a high standard of quality.

Responsibilities

• Receive and check in vehicles as they arrive at the yard, ensuring each vehicle is processed accurately and efficiently.
• Use a handheld device to enter key vehicle information, including color, make, model, VIN number, visible damage, and overall vehicle quality.
• Capture clear and accurate photos of each vehicle using the handheld device as part of the check-in process.
• Clean vehicles as needed to prepare them for auction, following established procedures and safety guidelines.
• Treat every vehicle as if it is new, regardless of the level of damage, and handle all property with care and respect.
• Move vehicles through the check-in process so they can be transferred to the holding lot once they are cleaned and properly identified.
• Work in an outdoor yard or junk lot environment, maintaining a clean and organized work area.
• Perform general labor tasks such as loading, unloading, and moving materials or equipment as needed.
• Use basic tools and power tools safely and effectively when required for yard or vehicle-related tasks.
• Maintain a high level of attention to detail to ensure accurate data entry, documentation, and vehicle assessment.
• Follow training and instructions from management on software, processes, and safety procedures.
• Stay on task with minimal supervision, demonstrating self-motivation and reliability throughout the shift.

Essential Skills

• Experience performing general labor in environments such as yards, construction, production, or warehouse settings.
• Ability to stand, walk, and remain on your feet for the full shift while working in an outdoor lot.
• Basic technology skills, including the ability to use cellphone-type devices and handheld equipment.
• Capability to enter information accurately into a handheld device, including vehicle details and condition.
• Ability to take clear photos using a handheld device and follow a defined check-in process.
• Strong attention to detail when documenting vehicle information and assessing visible damage.
• Comfort working in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions.
• Willingness and ability to perform physical tasks such as heavy lifting, loading, unloading, and cleaning.
• Self-starter mindset with the ability to stay motivated and productive without constant supervision.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Background in yard work, general labor, or warehouse operations.
• Experience using power tools and basic equipment in a safe manner.
• Familiarity with vehicle parts or automotive environments is helpful but not required.
• Openness to learning new software and processes with on-the-job training.
• Reliability and consistency in meeting work schedules and performance expectations.

Work Environment

The role follows a Monday through Friday schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., providing consistent daytime hours. Work takes place in a junk yard or lot environment, primarily outdoors, and involves exposure to all weather conditions throughout the year. Yard workers spend most of the day on their feet, walking, standing, and moving between vehicles and areas of the lot. The position includes physical tasks such as heavy lifting, loading and unloading, and cleaning vehicles. Basic tools and power tools may be used as needed. Management provides comprehensive training on all software and processes, ensuring you understand how to use the handheld devices and complete each step of the job safely and correctly.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Millington, TN.

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr.
