POSITION SUMMARY POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Controller, this position will coordinate with staff and perform professional and technical responsibilities related to the tribe's financial operations; assist in maintaining control over fiscal information systems. Process, record, monitor and analyze transactions and balances; prepare and interpret financial reports and assure that the Tribe and Tribe's component units are complying with Tribal, State and Federal policies, procedures, ordinances and regulations, as well as General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist in maintaining accurate and complete financial statements, general ledger and other financial records as required for the Tribe and the Tribe's component units.
2. Research and understand complex regulations or procedures and apply them to related assignments.
3. Learn and effectively use accounting systems to store and retrieve data.
4. Clearly communicate orally and in writing with all levels of departmental staff.
5. Provide accurate information.
6. Elicit cooperative working relationships with departments.
7. Apply federal, state and local laws, ordinances and regulations to accounting and auditing work.
8. Make decisions and recommendations consistent with essential functions.
9. Review all subsidiary ledgers and journal vouchers prepared by the Bookkeepers prior to posting to the General Ledger.
10. Write Journal Vouchers and post to General Ledger for corrections.
11. Analyze each project on a monthly basis to ensure accuracy.
12. Review subsidiary ledgers to make sure they are being maintained in an auditable condition.
13. Analyze Balance Sheet accounts and reconcile to subsidiary ledgers to ensure accuracy.
14. Learn and effectively use the accounting system to record transactions and retrieve reports. Prepare clear, concise, comprehensive and accurate reports.
15. Maintain equipment inventory and reconcile the inventory to the general ledger.
16. Must maintain confidentiality at all times.
17. Perform duties as deemed necessary to meet the needs of the department.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
1. G9: Bachelor's degree in related field with two years of job specified experience.
2. Employees must be willing to acquire any special certifications or attend any training that is determined to be relevant or become required of the position in the future.
3. Candidates with equivalent combinations of education, training and experience will be considered. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Knowledge of governmental and grant financial reporting procedures.
2. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
3. Knowledge of techniques and practices of governmental accounting and government accounting standards board (GASB) pronouncements.
4. Knowledge of fiscal management, accounting systems and data processing, financial administration, budgeting and reporting, financial research and report preparation.
5. Working knowledge of data base applications and computerized accounting systems
6. Ability to communicate effectively with staff and the public, using tact and discretion, in responding to questions, comments and complaints from staff and citizens in a professional manner.
7. Ability to compose correspondence and other related materials while effectively employing principles of good correspondence.
8. Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations with error free accuracy.
9. Knowledge of Algebraic equations.
10. Ability to develop computer spreadsheets using complex formulas and a variety of financial and other mathematical functions.
11. Able to work within established guidelines.
12. Ability to understand legal documents, federal, state and local regulations.
13. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
14. Recognition that in order to serve Yurok People one must know as much as possible about Yurok history, culture and values.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES/CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
