Job Summary Contra Costa Electric, Inc. is recruiting for a Safety Coordinator position reporting directly to the Safety Director in El Segundo, CA. The Safety Representative will review, evaluate, and analyze work environments and design programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent incidents. The role includes conducting inspections, training personnel, and enforcing safety laws and regulations. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Ensure compliance with the Safety Program, OSHA, company policies, and provide safe working environments. Understand and implement site‑specific safety plans. Monitor operational compliance with contracts and company policies. Escalate critical or sensitive issues to the Safety Director with recommendations for resolution. Prepare and lead jobsite safety meetings; advise site management on safety responsibilities. Inspect or evaluate workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with Cal OSHA, Fed OSHA, MSHA, NFPA 70E, and customer or company specific regulations. Recommend measures to protect workers from hazardous methods, processes, or materials. Exercise Stop Work Authority for activities that pose threats to health or safety. Regularly inspect safety equipment to ensure compliance with testing requirements. Coordinate with tool room/warehouse to use Tool Watch for tracking and maintaining safe equipment and provide replacements as needed. Participate in the Quarterly Safety Committee meeting and Contribute suggestions for process improvement. Participate in sub‑committees as required. Provide project status updates as needed. Conduct scheduled and unscheduled safety audits at all job sites; enforce the safety program and report violations. Document unsafe activities and conditions and correct deficiencies immediately. Maintain a visible presence on site to represent the company’s safety policies. Collaborate with site staff to institute control or remedial measures for hazardous conditions or equipment. Assist in accident investigations and document near‑miss reports, ensuring corrective actions are implemented. Provide safety training and toolbox talks for weekly VOLT topics and ensure training records are complete. Competent in equipment and safety trainings; provide support to ensure all employees have appropriate training certifications. Equipment – aerial lift, forklift, scissor lift, boom lift, etc. Safety – confined space, fire watch, fall protection, scaffold user, hazard communication, PPE, etc. Reference training databases to ensure compliance. Manage and administer the company Lock‑out/Tag‑out Program. Collaborate with the Project Foreman to plan work activities to reduce risk exposure and ensure contract activities meet safety criteria. Assist in preparing Job Hazard Analysis and project‑specific forms. Obtain necessary permits or approvals for high‑risk activities such as hot work, confined space, or energized electrical work. Monitor and implement drug‑testing requirements per site regulations. Promote a zero‑accident environment for all company activities. Conduct new‑hire safety orientation, complete required paperwork, and forward to payroll. Provide safety information and answer inquiries. Utilize and calibrate gas monitors to monitor H₂S, O₂, LEL, and CO levels in confined spaces. Perform additional assignments as required by the operating needs of the company. General Quickly learn and apply Safety Department practices and technical skills. Work independently with little supervision after initial training. Manage multiple job tasks concurrently. Ask appropriate questions related to assignments and recommend improvements. Maintain excellent organization and a positive attitude under pressure. Comply with all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements. Demonstrate commitment to EMCOR’s values, business code of conduct, and ethics. Work 40 hours per week in Martinez, CA or assigned job site. Qualifications To perform this role successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Preferred Education and Experience Minimum 1 year experience in a safety capacity. OSHA 30‑hour construction safety class or equivalent; maintain competency with 24 hours of safety training every four years. Knowledge of OSHA, federal, state, and city environmental and safety regulations with ability to interpret and apply them. Valid driver’s license in good standing. Certified First Aid and CPR Trainer. Computer Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel). Required Competencies Ability to work with diverse groups to gain buy‑in and drive team results. Integrity, honesty, professionalism, and confidentiality. Comfortable with public speaking for training and safety meetings. Capability to deliver performance feedback and coaching. Ability to make quick yet sound decisions. Build positive relationships with employees, management, suppliers, and customers. Analyze data and solve problems on tactical and strategic levels. Language Skills Effective verbal and written communication in English with ability to cooperate and collaborate with customers, employees, unions, government agencies, vendors, and subcontractors. Physical Demands Worksite duties include outdoor work under wet, humid, or extreme weather; use of mechanical equipment; climbing, lifting up to 25 pounds, and exposure to dust, fumes, chemicals, and vibration. Task requires standing, walking, raising hands, speaking, and computer use for short periods. Occasional travel by car may be required.
