We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to join a nonprofit healthcare organization in Columbia, South Carolina in a contract capacity with the potential to become permanent. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting specialist who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can keep critical close activities on track during busy month-end and year-end cycles. The position will support core accounting operations, strengthen reconciliation processes, and help maintain accurate financial reporting while partnering with internal teams on workflow improvements.

Responsibilities:
• Manage key components of the monthly and year-end close process, ensuring deadlines are met and accounting activities are completed accurately.
• Prepare and post journal entries, maintain general ledger accuracy, and verify that supporting documentation aligns with financial activity.
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances or outstanding items until they are fully resolved.
• Complete bank reconciliations and follow up on unreconciled transactions to support clean and timely financial records.
• Oversee fixed asset accounting responsibilities as work transitions into this position and maintain organized records related to asset activity.
• Monitor completion of monthly accounting checklists and coordinate with team members to keep deliverables moving efficiently.
• Use Blackbaud Financial Edge to support day-to-day accounting tasks, reporting, and financial data review.
• Create and maintain spreadsheet-based analyses using formulas, lookup functions, and pivot tables to improve accuracy and visibility.
• Partner with leadership and internal teams on process improvement efforts, including workflow and automation-related initiatives tied to accounting operations.
