Job Title: Senior Instructional Designer Division: Office of Educational Affairs Work Arrangement: Hybrid Location: Houston, TX Salary Range: $79,092 - $93,049 FLSA Status: Exempt Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Summary The Senior Instructional Designer participates in the planning, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of high-quality, technology-enabled learning experiences, training programs, and digital resources. The position primarily supports the strategic and operational priorities of the Office of Education Affairs while also partnering with departments, programs, and subject matter experts across the institution on instructional design, training, and educational technology initiatives. The Senior Instructional Designer serves as a strategic instructional design and educational technology partner, applying instructional design principles, adult learning strategies, educational technologies, multimedia development, and assessment practices to create effective training, resources, and digital learning experiences for students, trainees, faculty, and staff. The position also supports technology-enabled institutional initiatives and systems, including the student portal within the College's student information system. Provides instructional design, educational technology, multimedia development, project management, and assessment expertise in support of institutional priorities, with primary responsibility for initiatives within the Office of Education Affairs. Develops and maintains technology-enabled training, learning resources, and digital solutions that support academic and student services, institutional effectiveness, compliance, accreditation, professional development, and continuous improvement. As part of the interview process, candidates may be asked to submit a portfolio or work samples that demonstrate experience designing and developing learning experiences, online training, educational resources, multimedia materials, or other relevant instructional design deliverables. Job Duties Serve as the primary instructional design and educational technology partner to the Office of Education Affairs and its units, while also supporting departments, programs, and initiatives across the institution. Partner with institutional leaders, subject matter experts, faculty, staff, and cross-functional teams to identify learning and training needs and develop effective, learner-centered solutions. Design, develop, implement, and continuously improve online training, educational resources, and technology-enabled learning experiences that support Education Affairs and broader institutional priorities. Apply instructional design theories and adult learning principles to develop training programs, learning experiences, and educational resources. Translate policies, procedures, compliance requirements, accreditation expectations, institutional processes, and complex information into clear, accessible, and effective training and educational resources. Design, develop, and maintain multimedia learning materials, including online modules, videos, presentations, tutorials, guides, toolkits, job aids, and other digital resources; manage projects from planning and storyboarding through production, implementation, and evaluation. Ensure online training, digital learning experiences, and related resources meet applicable accessibility, quality, privacy, and institutional standards. Conduct needs assessments, analyze learners and organizational contexts, gather stakeholder feedback, and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs, learning experiences, and instructional resources to inform continuous improvement. Create and maintain online modules, guides, toolkits, templates, project documentation, and other instructional resources for institutional audiences. Provide instructional design, educational technology, and project management expertise for initiatives involving training, digital learning, multimedia, professional development, academic and student services, and other technology-enabled resources. Support the development and implementation of institutional training and educational resources related to Education Affairs priorities, academic policies, regulatory and compliance requirements, accreditation, and other institutional responsibilities. Serve as Web Portal Manager for Jenzabar, the College's student information system, providing functional leadership for student portal development, content, organization, navigation, functionality, user experience, testing, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement. Participate in Jenzabar implementation activities, trainings, module manager meetings, testing, documentation, and post-implementation optimization activities related to assigned functions. Collaborate with institutional partners and cross-functional teams on projects involving educational technology, digital learning, student-facing resources, and systems supporting academic and student services. Provide project management for assigned instructional design, educational technology, and digital learning initiatives, including establishing requirements, coordinating stakeholders, monitoring timelines, maintaining documentation, and supporting successful implementation. Assess emerging technologies, instructional design approaches, and related policies for potential application to institutional learning and training opportunities. Support digital badging, learning pathways, orientation programs, professional development, and other structured learning initiatives. Develop and maintain standards, templates, procedures, resource libraries, and project documentation to promote consistency, quality, sustainability, and continuity across instructional design and educational technology initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related field. Five years of relevant experience. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in instructional design, education, educational technology, communications, information technology, or a related field. Master's degree in instructional design, educational technology, education, higher education administration, or a related field. Experience in higher education, academic affairs, Education Affairs, or an academic health sciences environment. Experience designing and developing online training, digital learning experiences, and multimedia educational resources. Experience with learning management systems, student information systems, web portals, or other enterprise educational technologies. Experience managing projects involving multiple stakeholders and functional areas. Knowledge of accessibility standards, instructional design methodologies, adult learning principles, and methods for evaluating training effectiveness. Experience with Jenzabar or a comparable student information system. Work Authorization Requirement: This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
