General Ledger Accountant

Overview George Fox University's Finance Department seeks a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual to serve as a General Ledger Accountant. Responsibilities Recording daily, weekly, or monthly transactions into the system of record to maintain financial accuracy. Monitoring General Ledger activity to identify and resolve errors or discrepancies. Reviewing existing processes to identify opportunities for increased efficiency, functionality, and documentation. Performing monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations of receivables, payables, and other required accounts. Assisting in preparations for the annual audit, required 990 tax reporting, and other reporting requirements of the University. Cross training to provide backup in other areas within the department. Completing special projects and periodic reporting as requested to support the evolving needs of the university. Other duties assigned to ensure continuous improvement in finance operations. Communicating effectively and courteously with employees, students, and the public. Behaving as a Christian role model to students. Working cross culturally with respect, appreciation, and humility. Other duties as assigned. Day in the Life This position involves communicating with a wide variety of stakeholders, posting journals, problem-solving, and occasionally working on special projects or reporting that occurs periodically during the year. Qualifications Two or more years of accounting or finance experience; preference for an accounting-related education. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word. Strong teamwork, detail orientation, organizational skills, and initiative. Aptitude and interest in learning technology. Integrity and discretion when handling confidential information. Effective communication in English, both verbal and written. Legal authorization to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship. Preferences Additional education in accounting or related fields. Experience with PeopleSoft, Fund/Not-for-Profit, Higher Education Fund Accounting, or Concur.
