Physician - Hematology/Oncology

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) — a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment. Award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications United States citizenship is required. Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Full, unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty leading to eligibility for board certification. Accepted residencies include: ACGME‑approved residency programs. AOA‑approved residency programs. Other residencies (non‑U.S. programs) followed by a minimum of five years of verified U.S. practice that the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to provide appropriate training. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs who meet the basic requirements may be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and do not receive privileges. They have a scope of practice that allows restricted duties under supervision. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Board certification or eligibility in Hematology/Oncology is required. Physical standards must be met. A physical examination prior to placement is required, and the position is designated for drug testing with random post‑appointment testing. The applicant must be able to lift, push, reach, and stand for extended periods and have adequate depth perception and color discrimination. Duties Provide day‑to‑day care of veteran patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Assess, consult, and treat hematology and oncology patients. Serve as an expert in chemotherapy and hematology procedures, including bone marrow aspiration and biopsy. Collaborate closely with nurses, pharmacists, and other interdisciplinary providers for comprehensive veteran care. Participate in multidisciplinary tumor board meetings and other clinical conferences at the VA and UCSF Fresno. Engage in research and clinical trials within hematology and oncology. Prepare to become a staff faculty member in Hematology and Oncology at UCSF Fresno. Actively train residents, fellows, and medical students rotating at the VA. Sign chemo regimens, obtain patient consents, and triage consults per VA policies and procedures. Adhere to VA time, attendance, and scheduling rules. Complete other duties as assigned, consistent with the role of a hematology/oncology physician. #J-18808-Ljbffr
