RN Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Job Summary:

The Level 4 Registered Nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides specialized nursing care to critically ill or premature newborns at a nationally recognized Level IV center. The RN is responsible for delivering advanced treatments, including respiratory and cardiac support, while collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. This role requires strong clinical skills, experience in telemetry, and certifications including NRP and BLS, with a commitment to working rotating shifts including days, evenings, and nights. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to critically ill and premature neonates in a Level IV NICU setting.
• Perform patient assessments, monitor vital signs, and manage advanced respiratory and cardiac treatments.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed and document care accurately.
• Collaborate effectively with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare team members.
• Respond to emergencies and provide critical interventions as needed.
• Maintain compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
• Participate in unit charge responsibilities and support team communication.
• Utilize electronic medical record systems, preferably Epic, for documentation and patient data management.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) 8th edition certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Minimum of two years of nursing experience, preferably in NICU or telemetry.
• Experience with telemetry monitoring.
• Ability to work rotating shifts including days, evenings, and nights.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience using Epic electronic health record system, ideally within the last year in a similar specialty.
• Previous NICU or neonatal critical care experience beyond two years.

Special Considerations:

• Must be willing and able to work rotating day, evening, and night shifts.
• Availability for weekends, holidays, on-call, callback, and charge nurse duties as needed.
• Work environment involves high acuity neonatal patients requiring advanced clinical skills.
• Compliance with hospital infection control policies, including TB skin test requirements.

Scheduling:

• Rotating shifts including day, evening, and night shifts (D/E/N).
• Schedules include weekends, holidays, and on-call/ callback responsibilities.
• Shift assignments determined by unit needs and staffing requirements.
