Nathan Hale Ray Middle School in East Haddam is seeking a dynamic and student centered Special Education Teacher to join us starting in the 2026 2027 school year. This position works as part of a team to support students in grades 4 8 across inclusive and specialized learning environments.

The ideal candidate will provide individualized, data driven instruction aligned to IEP goals, with a strong focus on developing students' reading, writing, and math skills through engaging, evidence based practices. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in progress monitoring, assessment, and implementing positive behavioral supports tailored to individual student needs.

Responsibilities include developing, implementing, and monitoring IEPs; collaborating closely with classroom teachers, related service providers, and families; and fostering meaningful student growth in both academic and social-emotional areas.

Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and knowledge of ABA/DTI strategies are preferred.

We are looking for an educator who is collaborative, reflective, and passionate about helping all students succeed.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide specially designed instruction aligned with each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP)
  • Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals and objectives
  • Deliver instruction in literacy, numeracy, and functional academic skills using evidence-based practices
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning, developmental, and behavioral needs
  • Collect, analyze, and use student data to inform instruction and track progress
  • Implement positive behavior supports and individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs)
  • Create and maintain a structured, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment
  • Administer and interpret academic and diagnostic assessments
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion and access to grade-level curriculum
  • Work closely with related service providers (e.g., speech, occupational therapy, counseling)
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, needs, and strategies for support
  • Prepare and maintain accurate documentation, including IEPs, progress reports, and service logs
  • Participate in PPT/IEP meetings and contribute to team decision-making
  • Adapt and modify curriculum materials to meet student needs
  • Support the development of social-emotional, communication, and independent living skills
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal special education regulations
  • Supervise and collaborate with paraprofessionals and support staff
  • QUALIFICATIONS
  • Current comprehensive special education (165) Connecticut teaching certificate required
  • IEP data collection knowledge
  • Working knowledge of CTSEDS
