As a Lead Utility Engineer or Coordinator in our Transportation practice, you'll play a critical role in the successful delivery of roadway, highway, bridge, and multimodal infrastructure projects throughout Tennessee, including support for the I-24 Choice Lanes Project.You'll work closely with project managers, roadway designers, utility owners, contractors, and public agency partners to identify, evaluate, and resolve utility conflicts that impact transportation projects. Leveraging your knowledge of TDOT processes and standards, you'll help deliver projects that keep communities connected and infrastructure moving forward.What You'll DoLead utility coordination activities for transportation projects involving TDOT, counties, municipalities, and other public agenciesIdentify, evaluate, and document utility conflicts during project development and designCoordinate with utility owners, including electric, gas, water, wastewater, telecommunications, and fiber providers to facilitate utility relocations and project deliveryReview roadway, bridge, and transportation design plans to assess utility impacts and relocation requirementsDevelop and maintain utility conflict matrices, utility coordination schedules, and tracking documentationSupport project teams through all phases of project development, from planning and preliminary design through final design and constructionCoordinate and review utility relocation plans, agreements, permits, and supporting documentationPerform utility analyses and provide recommendations that minimize project risks, costs, and schedule impactsCollaborate with roadway, traffic, drainage, structures, right-of-way, and construction teams to ensure comprehensive project deliveryFacilitate meetings with utility companies, agency stakeholders, and project teamsSupport utility-related QA/QC reviews and ensure compliance with applicable standards and project requirementsAssist with construction-phase utility coordination and resolution of unforeseen utility conflictsProjects You'll SupportHighway and roadway improvement projects, including the I-24 Choice Lanes projectMultimodal and transit-related initiativesBridge replacement and rehabilitation projectsOther, non-transportation projects Here's what you'll need High school diploma or equivalent8 or more years of experience in utility coordination in accordance with TDOT or other state DOT standards, policies, and proceduresKnowledge of utility infrastructure systems including electric, gas, water, sewer, stormwater, telecommunications, and fiber optic facilitiesExperience identifying utility conflicts and coordinating utility relocations on transportation projectsUnderstanding of utility accommodation policies, permitting processes, and industry standardsIdeally, You'll Also HaveBachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or equivalent technical degreeActive Professional Engineer (PE) license in TennesseeExperience with Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) investigations and utility designation processesWorking knowledge of MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer, Civil 3D, GIS, or utility mapping platformsExperience supporting Design-Build, alternative delivery, or large-scale transportation programsProven ability to lead utility coordination efforts with minimal supervisionStrong technical writing, documentation, and presentation skills#LI-KD1 #TennTOur health and welfare benefits are designed to invest in you, and in the things you care about.
