Professionals in the Division assess and actively manage risk, trade securities and structure, as well as execute innovative transactions in the fast-paced and constantly changing global markets.Morgan Stanley’s Institutional Securities Group is looking for a Vice President to join the First Line Central Risk team. The Central Risk team is focused on centralization, standardization, and streamlining of risk management activities across ISG Business Units. The team covers several risk areas including Operational, Third Party, Electronic Trading, Regulatory and Audit, Conduct and Compliance, Client, Product, Financial Crime, Data, Info Security and Cyber, Model and Trader Mandate, and Sustainability.This role will focus specifically on governance of Operational Risk and Resilience cross-divisional activities.Role DescriptionOversee the risk management practices across the different Institutional Securities businesses to ensure practices are consistent and effectively support business growth initiatives by setting standards, establishing adequate controls and integrity of the Operational Risk systems and processes.Specifically:Perform ongoing monitoring and reporting of Operational Risk incidents across ISG and ensure timely escalation, including performing issue and incident analysis, lessons learned and remediation recommendationsProvide thought leadership and subject matter expertise on lessons learned, risk event analysis, and continuous improvement effortsLead cross-functional initiatives that enhance risk management practices, governance effectiveness, and organizational resiliencePartner with Firmwide teams and ISG Business Control Unit to ensure programmatic requirements across Operational Risk, Resilience and other Firmwide programs impacting ISG, are fit-for-purpose, include our requirements and are implemented consistently across ISG Business Units globallyLead scenario-based exercises and tabletops for the division on a range of risks, including impact of external events (e.g., impacts from changes to the regulatory, political or economic climate)Support senior management decision-making through risk insights, challenge, and strategic advisory activitiesMonitor consistency and materiality of key risk indicators and determine appropriate actions required, escating as necessarySuccess Criteria and QualificationsCritical Success Factors:Strategic thinker with the ability to partner effectively across business units, regions, and lines of defense, including senior managementStrong execution and project management skills, with a proven ability to drive outcomes and deliver against critical deadlinesAbility to navigate competing priorities and stakeholder expectations in a dynamic, fast-paced environmentStrong understanding of the business, operational risk, and regulatory landscape, with the ability to assess implications and emerging developmentsExcellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and present complex topics clearly and succinctly to senior audiencesHighly organized and detail-oriented, with strong judgment, professionalism, discretion, and integrityQualifications:5-10 years of related work experience in risk management functionsBachelor’s degree required; MBA or M.S. in related field preferredA strong understanding of the front-office processes is preferred, particularlyOperational Risk governanceOperational Resilience programs and exercises Scenario based exercise managementWHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM MORGAN STANLEY: At Morgan Stanley, we raise, manage and allocate capital for our clients – helping them reach their goals.
