SHEET METAL MECHANIC LEADER (EXPERT)

Position Summary Serve as a sheet metal mechanic leader (expert) for the Department of Navy covering Portsmouth, Puget Sound, Norfolk, Pearl Harbor, and Intermediate Maintenance Facility. Located in Shop 17. Applicants considered only within their own UIC. Duties Manufacture, assemble, install, remove, and repair ventilation, furnishings, and items including nonstructural bulkheads and overheads. Provide technical expertise on work instructions, interpreting instructions, and resolving problems for sheet metal employees assigned to a project. Conduct shipboard pre‑work inspections to ensure compliance with technical documentation, recommend resolution of complex problems. Report to supervisors on status, progress, delays and answer questions on overall operations. Inspect completed and in‑process work for quality, adherence to specifications, standards, plans and schedules. Requirements U.S. Citizen, suitable for federal employment. Participate in direct deposit pay program, pass E‑Verify. Must be registered for Selective Service if applicable. Possess and maintain security clearance before duty entry. Maintain valid U.S. driver’s license. Complete required training, obtain and maintain government credit card. Wear required PPE continuously during shift. Work in environments with potential hazards; participate in medical surveillance. May require travel CONUS/OCONUS, including remote sites. Requires U.S. passport. Mission essential position; ensure organization continuity. Ability to climb ladders, work in awkward positions and confined spaces. May require rotating shift work. Must lift/carry up to 50 lb. May require unusual duty hours; overtime or night differential may apply. Qualifications Applicants must demonstrate level of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies required for the position. Emphasis on quality of experience, not length of time. Minimum eligibility screen‑out: Ability to lead or supervise. Ability to interpret instructions and specifications, including blueprint reading. Ability to lead or supervise. Ability to use hand tools, power tools for metal work. Dexterity in assembly, disassembly, reassembly. Knowledge of equipment, structures, materials; construction, repair, forging. Layout and pattern development; geometric projection, triangulation. Education No education qualification requirement.
