GWServes Community Partnerships VISTA Leader

Overview The George Washington University (GWU), located in downtown Washington DC, seeks a VISTA Leader to build the capacity of the GW/District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) program that places VISTAs to support Title 1 schools. The VISTA Leader develops project activities and sources of community support to expand successful community partnerships and volunteer programs between public schools and community organizations. The VISTA Leader guides, develops, supports and liaises with other VISTAs in the program, helps VISTAs identify and develop new partnerships, seeks additional program resources, expands communications and information sharing, evaluates program efforts, and identifies training and professional development opportunities for VISTAs. Key Attributes Ability to reach out to, lead, guide, coach, and provide support to VISTAs and other project stakeholders. Ability to work independently, take initiative, and achieve goals. Adaptability, flexibility, and willingness to learn from experience. Strong written and oral communication skills. Experience designing and leading volunteer programs. Ability to identify and plan ongoing training, professional, and personal development opportunities for VISTAs. Ability to work with diverse groups and people at multiple levels of organizations. Member Duties Provide observation, advice, feedback, and guidance to VISTAs. Arrange training and professional development for VISTAs. Provide opportunities for personal growth for VISTAs. Help VISTAs identify, communicate with, and work with potential community partners. Gather and share information about effective practices for partnership development. Support resource development strategies by VISTAs. Help VISTAs engage parents, community members, higher education volunteers, and volunteer programs. Support program fundraising and reporting efforts. Projected Impacts Improvement of existing school-community partnerships. More partnerships, volunteers, volunteer projects, volunteer hours.
