Los Nietos School District Pop-Up Hiring Event We’re excited to invite you to our Los Nietos School District Pop-Up Hiring Event on Wednesday, June 17th from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM at 1521 W. Cameron Ave, Suite 200, West Covina, CA 91790. This event is focused exclusively on opportunities within Los Nietos School District in Whittier, CA and is open to anyone interested in joining Woodcraft Rangers in roles such as Camp Leaders, Jr. Rangers Camp Leaders, Camp Community Liaisons, and Camp Coordinators. We will be conducting on-the-spot interviews, and selected candidates may even be hired the same day. Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn more about our organization and the positive impact we make in local communities. Who We Are In 1922, Woodcraft Rangers opened its doors in Los Angeles and began its mission of guiding young people as they explore pathways to purposeful lives. As a progressive organization, Woodcraft has always been responsive to the evolving needs of the communities served, and is notably inclusive, youth‑led, and rooted in the Woodcraft Way, a holistic framework that develops body, mind, spirit, and service. Continuously at the forefront of expanded learning opportunities, Woodcraft Rangers has a rich history of making a significant impact in the greater Los Angeles area, believing that all youth is innately good, deserves the opportunity to realize their full potential, and should be an active participant in defining their own path. What We Do Woodcraft Rangers provides TK‑12 expanded learning programs, including before and after school, specialty enrichment, and summer learning. In recent years we have expanded our menu of services beyond traditional after‑school programs and summer camps to include early learning, environmental and social justice, college access, and inclusion services for youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We also offer Lifecraft, a college and career advancement program to support the development of approximately 1,500 staff. Today, Woodcraft Rangers serves more than 25,000 youth ages 4 to 18 each year across 130+ Title I schools in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties, and continues to expand its reach. Job Summary Camp Leaders are responsible for ensuring a fun and positive learning environment for campers and will support clubs of approximately 20 children. Camp leaders have the opportunity to grow, connect, play and have the greatest impact on each of their camper’s summer. Other members of the team include a camp coordinator, who oversees the program, and a community liaison who supports the camp coordinator. All camp staff can choose between working in day camps, sleep‑away camp or both. The Camp Leader position is an on‑site position, including attending training at the Woodcraft Rangers main office in Little Tokyo and at school sites. Role Overview Ensure students are in a safe environment (physically and emotionally). Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces diversity for all program participants, staff, and families. Develop and lead age‑appropriate program activities that are fun, engaging and aligned with a whole‑child approach (social‑emotional learning, skill building, self‑esteem, leadership, etc.). Woodcraft has an activity catalog to support the development of activity plans. Monitor participant attendance and engagement to ensure participants are present and actively engaged in program activities. Build positive relationships with program participants, colleagues, and all stakeholders. Collaborate with colleagues and supervisor to develop culminating activities or events that showcase all participant work and accomplishments. Request required materials in a timely manner so Camp Coordinator can ensure materials are available when needed and within budget. Comply with all applicable safety requirements and emergency protocols, including being up‑to‑date on all trainings and required certifications. May be required to attend off‑site field trips. Maintain and submit student attendance daily. Participate in staff development trainings as required, approximately 15 hours spread out over multiple weekends or intersession days throughout the spring. Camp Leaders are accountable to the Camp Coordinator and Program Manager for assigned duties. Other related duties as assigned. Ideal Candidate Ideally, we are looking for someone who is detail‑oriented, energetic, ambitious, proactive, and positive, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Multitasking and attention to detail must be strengths. Individuals need to be comfortable presenting and speaking in front of staff and peers during in‑person training. Requirements Knowledge and experience working in expanded learning programs or youth recreational facilities. Minimum High School Diploma or GED (AA Degree in Child Development or a related field preferred); prior experience working with groups of K‑12 students in an academic or recreational setting preferred. Work well with young children and/or youth. Good oral and written communication. Computer literacy and willingness to learn. Valid live‑scan, TB clearance, and CPR certification. Must successfully pass an assessment test evaluating skills in math, reading comprehension, and spelling. For ABC Unified School District (Cerritos) candidates only – 48+ college units or ABC Unified paraeducator test completion. Physical Demands Frequent standing during working hours. Regular use of hands for various tasks, such as operating a computer and handling objects. Frequently required to talk, hear, and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to a computer monitor. The noise level reflects a typical work environment for this job description.
