Assistant Service Manager

Overview The Assistant Services Manager (ASM) leads Ulta Beauty's salon services team, driving sales growth, guest satisfaction, and operational excellence while also providing hands‑on services to guests. Responsibilities Performance Perform salon hair services, makeup applications, skincare analysis, brow services, and product demonstrations. Achieve individual productivity goals each week. Promote a culture of accountability to exceed store goals in service and merchandise sales, guest loyalty, payroll, omni‑channel, and retail shrink. Drive profitability through operational excellence, top‑line sales growth, and expense control. Plan and execute services events to enhance guest experience and support sales and payroll goals. Review and analyze financial and operational reports, and develop strategies to improve service sales. Stay informed on industry trends, products, and services to better serve guests. Maintain attendance as the ASM and hold all services associates accountable to the Ulta Beauty attendance policy. People Attract, hire, and retain a diverse team of service professionals using various recruitment methods. Build a highly engaged team that embodies the Ulta Beauty brand through effective collaboration and coaching. Train, coach, and develop services professionals using company programs and resources. Create an inclusive environment that encourages growth and participation in training programs. Provide individualized, competency‑based feedback and coaching, succession planning, and development plans. Establish brand partner relationships to collaboratively achieve sales and service goals. Promote a culture of service excellence by sharing best practices and supporting the leadership team. Process Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty policies, procedures, and standards. Respond promptly to all company communications. Enforce Ulta Beauty’s dress code. Manage salon supply inventory and ordering within allocated budget. Use the task management tool to prioritize and execute store workload. Protect company assets and minimize loss through adherence to workplace safety, inventory control, and loss prevention. Advocate continuous improvement, technology adoption, and task execution. Support scheduling of service associates to optimize traffic patterns and productivity. Qualifications Education Graduate of a cosmetology school. Cosmetology license and/or cosmetology management license where required by state law. Experience 2–3+ years relevant, fast‑paced salon management experience. Knowledge of state board of cosmetology regulations and hiring requirements. Financial management experience: driving top‑line sales, interpreting reporting data, managing payroll budgets, controlling expenses. Leadership experience: attracting, developing, and motivating talent; adapting to change; building collaborative relationships; influencing others. Skills Proficiency with latest salon techniques for haircutting, hair color, lightening, styling, texture, treatment, extensions, makeup, and brow services. Proficiency with ear piercing services (where applicable) and aptitude to develop skills in all service categories. Proficiency with basic technology (Point of Sale, Microsoft Office, Apple devices). Strong collaboration, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to perform under pressure, use good judgment, and be flexible and adaptable. Special Position Requirements Work a flexible full‑time schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Attend corporate business meetings and conferences. Working Conditions Continuous mobility throughout the store during shift. Frequent standing, bending, reaching, and twisting during shift. Continuous lifting and/or moving up to 10 lbs during shift.
