Registered Nurse - Psychiatric

Job Description

Job Summary:
Provide specialized psychiatric nursing care to adolescent and adult patients in a high-acuity behavioral health unit. Deliver comprehensive assessments, crisis intervention, medication management, and therapeutic communication to promote patient recovery and safety.

Responsibilities:

Assess patients' mental health status by observing behavior, taking patient histories, and utilizing diagnostic tools.
Develop and implement individualized care plans, including setting goals and evaluating outcomes.
Administer psychiatric medications and monitor for adverse effects or reactions.
Provide immediate crisis intervention, de-escalating aggressive or suicidal behaviors and ensuring patient safety.
Communicate effectively with patients to build trust and rapport, utilizing active listening and empathy.
Monitor physical and psychological symptoms, vital signs, and medication effects, documenting findings accurately.

Qualifications:

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license with current state certification.
Active BLS and CPI certifications are required.
Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in behavioral health or psychiatric nursing.
Ability to assess and respond to psychiatric crises swiftly and effectively.
Strong therapeutic communication skills and empathy.
Knowledge of psychotropic medications and mental health treatment protocols.
