A nurse surveyor protects residents’ health and safety by conducting on‑site inspections and investigations, including investigations of abuse, neglect, and exploitation in Texas long‑term care settings (home health agencies and hospice agencies). The role requires travel up to 80% of the time, on‑call duties, and occasional court appearances. The position offers competitive pay, state benefits, and opportunities for career advancement. Essential Job Functions Conduct on‑site licensure inspections, complaint and incident investigations, and annual comprehensive surveys to assess compliance with federal and state regulations. Investigate abuse, neglect, and exploitation allegations. Communicate clearly and accurately with internal and external stakeholders to exchange information, answer inquiries, or resolve issues. Conduct exit conferences with agency staff regarding findings. Complete inspection or survey reports detailing deficiencies and narrative to support regulatory findings. Revisit agencies to verify correction of previously cited violations. Perform quality assurance reviews of documents prepared by others (e.g., publications, assessments, reports). Supervise team members during inspections, providing expertise and guidance. Testify at hearings or court proceedings regarding policy, procedures, findings, or activities. Assist with emergency licensure action and non‑skilled care oversight when necessary. Be available for on‑call duties for emergencies such as weather events or high‑priority situations. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Knowledge of issues affecting high‑risk populations (elderly, mentally ill, developmentally disabled, etc.). Hospice experience preferred. Skill in interpersonal relations and quality assurance monitoring. Skill in providing guidance, policy clarifications, and information to others. Skill in preparing detailed written reports. Ability to multi‑task, track activities, and prioritize tasks. Ability to collect, analyze, and solve data and work problems. Ability to interpret regulatory policies, procedures, and regulations. Ability to work independently and use computers for report writing. Ability to exercise professional judgment and reach sound decisions. Skills in oral, written, and electronic communication. Ability to be organized and punctual. Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications Licensed as a registered nurse by the State of Texas or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact. Successfully complete all federal and state training for Home and Community Support Services Agencies and Hospice Orientation. Initial Screening Criteria Experience as an independent or autonomous health care provider (home health, hospice, long‑term care facility, hospital, field nurse, or case manager). Prefer two years of experience as a registered nurse in a health care setting. Minimum one year of experience in institutional care, home health care, hospice care, or another long‑term care setting preferred. Additional Information Flexibility in work hours required. Job requires 80% travel, including statewide, overnight, and weekend travel. On‑call duties for emergencies or high‑priority situations may be required. Must have reliable transportation.
