The role involves delivering coordinated nursing care for patients according to established standards of care and the nursing process. Responsibilities include supervising and directing the activities of various levels of nursing staff. Coordination of care with other disciplines is essential, utilizing critical thinking and independent judgment. The nurse will collect relevant data pertinent to the patient's health or situation. Analysis of assessment data will aid in determining diagnosis and care issues. Developing a plan to prescribe interventions aimed at attaining desired outcomes is crucial. Implementation of the care plan and coordination of care delivery is expected. Strategies to promote health and ensure a safe environment will be employed. Regular evaluation of progress toward attaining outcomes is required. Identifying outcomes for patients or their situations is part of the role. Collaboration with patients, families, and healthcare providers is essential for delivering patient care. Providing learning opportunities for patients, family members, and team members will be part of the responsibilities. Direct health information will be provided to patients, families, and the treatment team. Participation in discharge planning is necessary to ensure continuity of care. Appropriate delegation and coordination of duties among healthcare team members are expected. Additional job-related duties may be assigned as necessary.
