Registered Nurse Stepdown

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Ability to read and interpret strips. - Skills in titrating drips such as Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Heparin. - Comfort with Bipap, Cpap, and High Flow ventilation.

Description: The stepdown unit consists of 28 private beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-5, adjusting to 1:6 if the medical-surgical acuity increases. Electronic Medical Records are managed through a Cerner and EPIC system. There is a monitor tech available; RNs must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips. Nurses will receive support from two nurse aides during day and mid shifts. There are no nurse aides scheduled for the night shift after 11 p.m. Weekend work includes every other weekend, with shifts assigned either Saturday/Sunday days or Friday/Saturday/Sunday nights. Holiday work is required on an every-other-holiday basis, rotating with permanent staff. Scrubs for the unit are navy blue, and any jackets worn must also be navy blue. The hospital has in-house hospitalists available 24/7 and intensivists on staff seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nurse staffing for shifts includes 12-hour schedules for RNs and 8-hour schedules for nurse aides. Nurses may float to the ICU as needed to provide assistance. Orientation consists of two shifts with a preceptor. Common patient diagnoses include heavy cardiac cases, dysrhythmias, and strokes, plus a mixture of other conditions downgraded from intensive care. The pharmacy and respiratory therapy services operate 24/7. The Director of Nursing communicates well with staff, ensuring clarity regarding schedules and allowing for block scheduling.
