We are committed to bringing in individuals with new cultural perspectives to assist in creating a more equitable healthcare organization.JOB DETAILSDepartment: EMSFTE: 1.0 (80 hours per pay period)Workdays: Monday - FridayShift(s): Days/EveningsShift Length: 8 hoursLocation: In-PersonOther: Driving RequirementsPurpose of this position: Under the general administrative direction of the EMS Deputy Chief (Manager) Education and the EMS Assistant Chief (Director) is responsible for the administration and coordination of the department’s paramedic programs as part of the education unit.RESPONSIBILITIESThe Paramedic Programs Principal is responsible for program planning, organization, administration, periodic review, program evaluation, continued program development, and program effectiveness, including:Coordinates the development of the educational content of the program curriculum and schedule to ensure appropriateness and medical accuracyConducts program planning meetings and advisory board meetingsMonitors the quality of the instruction and evaluation of the studentsAssures the quality of clinical and field internship phases of the programAssures qualified instruction by EMS Educators and InstructorsParticipates in providing instruction to studentsReviews and approves the progress of each student and facilitate the development of appropriate corrective measures when a student does not show adequate progressAssures the competence of each graduate of the program in the cognitive, psychomotor and affective domainsResponsible for cooperative involvement with the program Medical DirectorAssures the quality of delegated responsibilitiesServes as the liaison to CAPCE for all matters involving the organization’s accreditationWorks with the physician medical director and instructional personnel to accomplish the following requirements: needs assessment, program planning, program implementation, program evaluation and revision and selection of instructional personnelDevelops and maintains the Paramedic Programs annual budgetDevelops and maintains all necessary contractual agreementsDevelops appropriate program syllabiSupervises the cleaning and maintenance of all medical devices and audio-visual equipment necessary for implementing the organization’s activitiesKeeps appropriate records that include all of the required information (see section on Attendance Verification, Records Maintenance and Reporting in chapter 2)Monitors adherence to CAPCE requirementsQUALIFICATIONSMinimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in a health, business, or education related area plus two years of approved paramedic experience with an active ALS service and two years teaching experience in EMS education programs where leadership skills and clinical competence have been demonstrated; or An approved equivalent combination of education and experienceCurrent certification as a Paramedic with the State of Minnesota or valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of MinnesotaMust have a valid Class D Minnesota driver’s license or equivalent, and must have a satisfactory driving record including no more than 2 moving violations in the past 3 years of licensureMust complete an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) or National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course as designated by Hennepin EMSMust qualify for and maintain a Hennepin County motor vehicle operators permitCurrent BLS, ACLS and PALS Instructor by the American Heart Association or approved equivalentORAn approved equivalent combination of education and experiencePreferred Qualifications:Master's degree in a health, business, or educational related area plus four years of approved paramedic experience with an active ALS service and two years of teaching experience in pre-hospital emergency care; ORMaster's degree in nursing with minimum of four years of current professional nursing experience in emergency care or other critical care setting and two years of teaching experience in nursing, healthcare, EMS or closely related field.Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:Ability to effectively manage company resources (i.e. budget and personnel)Skilled in overseeing the efforts of department individualsSuperb ability to motivate students and inspire positive change within department, innovative thinker; Ability to contribute new ideas that support organizational goalsSkilled in modeling company values through daily interactions within the department, particularly with regards to health and safetyCapable of supporting the work of the departmentHigh standard of ethics, discipline, and professionalismSkilled in fostering a positive workplace culture and building inclusive workplace teamsYou've made the right choice in considering Hennepin Healthcare for your employment.
