JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Site Director

REPORTS TO: Director of School Based Programs

CLASS: Non- Exempt, Part Time

SUPERVISES: Program Specialists, Program Assistants, Volunteers

HOURS AND WAGE: School Year: 20-28 hours/week between 1-6pm, Summer: 30-35 hours/week between 7:30a-5:30p

$22-$25/hour D.O.E.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Directs the overall operation of all programs in a specific branch or Club outreach site, with primary concern for the program and activities. Plans, develops, implements, coordinates and supervises programs and program staff, and performs related administrative duties.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

  • Establishes and maintains a program setting which ensures the health and safety of members, ensures members understand and follow standards of programs; that program areas are safe, well ventilated and well lit; and the equipment is maintained in good working condition. Orders, maintains and ensures proper storage of equipment and supplies for program area(s).
  • Develops and fosters a positive climate for youth development based on the mission and goals of the Boys & Girls Clubs of La Plata County. Ensures that members actively participate in a variety of programs and activities; seek advice and guidance from staff about problems; and receive caring, respect and recognition for their efforts.
  • Plans and oversees the administration of programs and activities that support the Boys & Girls Clubs movements Youth Development Strategy. Establishes objectives consistent with the organizational goals and mission. Evaluates programs on a continual basis and ensures programs and activities address the gender and cultural diversity of members.
  • Implements and directs daily programs and activities in one or more program areas. Ensures that members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas and activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program area(s). Demonstrates leadership to assure conduct, safety and development of members.
  • Oversees guidance services to members to assist them in making appropriate and fulfilling choices in educational, personal, physical, social, emotional, vocational and spiritual needs.
  • Manages administrative functions of program area(s) and assigned resources. Ensures proper record keeping and reporting including activities and events conducted, breakdown of daily participation figures, notable achievements and any problems or issues. Oversees programs within established budgetary guidelines.
  • Supervises, supports and trains staff and volunteers as necessary. Organizes and participates in weekly site staff meetings.
  • Promotes and markets programs to members by posting a daily schedule, announcements of upcoming events and dissemination of timely information to admin staff for the development of advertising and promotion through mailings, fliers, and media and communication to families
  • Maintains close daily contact with club staff, club members, supervisor and volunteers to receive/provide information, discuss issues, understand guidelines/instructions, instruct, and advise/counsel.
  • Maintains contact with external community groups including, schools, school staff, parents and others to assist in problem solving, collaboration, and community mobilization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Per childcare licensing- Must be at least 21 years old
  • Per childcare licensing- Must have 1000 hours working with youth in a professional setting in groups of 4 or more (ages 4 and up)
  • Four-year degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) years work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people preferred.
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management abilities.
  • Strong communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to recruit, train, supervise, motivate and retain staff.
  • Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
  • Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications

Normal internal working environment with duties are normally performed at the Boys & Girls Club of La Plata County and local school sites

Able to function under fast-paced and noisy conditions

Schedules vary depending on program and operational needs including nights and weekends

  • Occasional travel required - able to travel by car and by air; able to navigate areas of the state by using a map or other direction methods

The employee should remain physically fit enough to keep children safe in an emergency.

The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to perform certain duties. The noise level in the work environment can range from quiet to moderate in office settings to moderate and usually loud in recreation and play settings when children are present. Must be able to hear and understand speech at normal levels and speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly

All employees working directly with children at all Boys and Girls Club of La Plata County must work outdoors in various types of weather conditions.
