Position Summary Telecom Technician 3 is responsible for the installation, planning, organizing, and scheduling of communications cabling and equipment to complete assigned work orders. The role includes assigning tasks, ensuring high-quality installation, monitoring compliance, and preventing safety issues. The technician oversees a team of five or more technicians and apprentices. Candidates should have experience installing equipment using hand and power tools, a working understanding of telecom systems, blueprints, and knowledge of codes and standards. All technicians must pursue qualification as a BICSI Technician. Telecom technicians are full‑time employees with company benefits. Responsibilities Have knowledge of and understand the safe use of hand tools and power tools Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Follow Safety Policies and Procedures Actively participate in daily safety and work briefings Install various types of low voltage cable Install, inspect, terminate, test, and troubleshoot ISP/OSP telecommunications systems (fiber optics, Category 5, 6, 6A, and associated equipment) Survey and document existing telecommunications infrastructure using electronic devices Sketch rack elevations, floor, and wall elevations Participate in design document reviews and activities to ensure timely, cost effective, and quality project outcomes Install, power up, and connect fiber uplinks of network equipment into a telecommunications cabinet/rack Calculate grounding conductor, conduit sizing and raceway layouts Produce a 4‑week look‑ahead plan, including productivity planning, material procurement, and weekly tracking Train and supervise apprentices in a team environment, ensuring methodical cable installation and proper bundling at the telecommunication room for ease of dressing and termination Maintain accurate as‑built drawings, updating and logging onto master record contract drawings at least once a week Perform quality assurance checks of the team’s work to ensure compliance with all applicable requirements Maintain a clean work area and participate in job site cleanup Secure company tools and materials daily Travel up to 25%, which may include domestic and/or international destinations Qualifications 6+ years prior experience in the commercial communications industry Minimum age 18 years High School diploma or GED required Excellent safety record, valid driver’s license, and clean driving record to meet corporate eligibility requirements for company owned vehicle use Successfully pass a background check and drug test Reliable transportation to and from the jobsite Ability to pass a basic telecommunications knowledge test Demonstrated experience and ability to read and understand plans and specifications Strong communication, time management, and organization skills to meet deadlines and quality objectives Consistently report to work on time, work well with others, and maintain a safe work environment Wear long pants and a shirt that covers the shoulders by six inches (clothing not provided by the Company) Provide basic tools from a provided tool list prior to the first day of employment Abilities Lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis; demonstrate physical strength and stamina for various tasks, including loading/unloading and operating equipment Relocate a 12‑foot stepladder without assistance Work at various heights up to 60 feet; climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and all types of ladders Walk, climb, lift, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull, and reach overhead on a routine and repetitive basis Possess good vision, the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English Use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools Identify when something is wrong or likely to go wrong without solving the problem; recognize that there is a problem Apply general rules to specific problems to produce logical answers Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions, including finding relationships among seemingly unrelated events See details at close range (within a few feet of the observer) Listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences Desired Skills BICSI credentials, including Technician Manufacturing Certifications and/or Fiber Certification Experience with Microsoft Office applications #J-18808-Ljbffr M.C.
