Veterinary Assistant/Technician (Part-time)

Part-time 20 hours per week position. Sign-on bonus for CVTs (prorated for part-time hours)! The hourly pay rate will be determined based on skill level. Assistant level pay rates range from $20.00 - $30.00 per hour. Certified Technician level pay rates range from $24.00 - $32.00 per hour with up to $2,500 sign-on bonus! Please note that candidates with additional experience or credentials may be eligible for compensation aligned with their qualifications.

The Position: We are looking for a Veterinary Assistant or Certified Veterinary Technician to assist with procedures for homeless animals at our adoption center and with owned patients from our low-cost community clinic. This is your opportunity to be a part of working in a clinic which outreaches to underserved communities in Lowell and Lawrence and helps care for the thousands of homeless animals at our Methuen Adoption Center. Primary responsibilities include assisting staff veterinarian with procedures and treatments required to ensure and maintain the health of homeless animals awaiting adoption. This position assists our veterinary team and shelter staff with the examination, vaccination and medical testing of incoming animals. This position also includes surgical monitoring for spays/neuters, dentals, and other surgical procedures for animals awaiting adoption and for animals seen through our community clinic for low income clients. We see an average of 350 owned patients a month and the position offers exposure to a diversity of surgical and medical cases rarely seen in private practice. About Nevins Farm: The MSPCA at Nevins Farm, in Methuen, Massachusetts, is a unique 55-acre animal care complex that provides shelter and adoption services for both farm and companion animals as well as a low cost community clinic and community outreach. In 2024, the MSPCA at Nevins Farm took in a total of 3,035 animals and had a live release rate of 92%.

Applicant Requirements: We are looking for applicants with at least one year of experience as a veterinary assistant with previous animal handling experience. Any applicants with experience in anesthesia monitoring are strongly encouraged to apply. Please detail your animal care experience in your cover letter.
